Planned computer upgrade. Those numbers added to today’s numbers will give the impression of a large surge.

Worldometers won't fill in CA numbers until like 8PM usually. Their numbers don't always match these proclamations since they operate on an 8PM end-of-day day.

They show 11,531 yesterday, and 6,090 so far today.
Seven day moving average positivity has gone from 4.5 on June 21 to 7.5 yesterday. Last time it was higher than 7.5 appears to be early May.
Here's the link, with California already selected.

*Today about one in eight deaths related to covid
*968 deaths yesterday. Soon we'll hit 1000/day
*Reports of multiple neurological and other damaging effects even in those without symptoms.

This is all Trump's fault. He will go down in history as our worst, most corrupt president

That number includes a backlog of LA cases reported for the first time yesterday, even though they occurred earlier in the week or over the weekend.

I don't see any data for how many cases that might be - although yesterday's CA report was 8631 (which is already higher than the June 24 numbers the Newsom press conference says today's numbers shattered. I'd expect a number higher than 8631, but probably lower than 10,000 for today.)

You may be right but cases are blowing up.

I am so disgusted by people refusing to mask. Evil, disgusting lowlifes.

And yes, cases are blowing up (just not the ginormous number in CA for the 8th that was reported). And I'm right there with you being angry at mask-slackers.

Some people here got slammed for using per capita figures. No matter how small another country's population was compared to our own, it's like we were supposed to go by gross numbers for cases. And there were many sarcastic threads "celebrating" our ranking number one in total cases.

it was 9500 cases Tuesday, and the reporting is normally a day behind, at least in LA County

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-07-08/california-sets-record-for-most-coronavirus-cases-in-a-single-day

But Governor Newsom quoted the number in the OP in his daily news conference today.
