China bans imports of shrimp from Ecuador after virus detected on packaging

China on Friday temporarily banned imports from three Ecuadorian companies after the novel coronavirus was detected on the packaging of frozen shrimp.

The outbreak was linked to a wholesale market in the capital city, where the virus was found on a cutting board used to prepare salmon imported from Norway.

Since then, Chinese authorities have tested over 220,000 samples from imported food products, General Administration of Customs official Bi Kexin said at a news conference Friday, Yahoo News reported.
