Fact is they do not.
The bar owners are suffering economically. They deserve financial relief from the govt.

(63,221 posts)because I don't want to come across as smug, but I am well suited to it. The best thing is that I don't feel the PRESSURE to have to go out and socialize as I have a built in excuse.
I wfh and am in online meetings and emailing people back and forth all day long and I get enough social interaction from the people I do want to connect w/ over the phone, text and email (almost too much sometimes). I have only left my apartment building the Thurs before the July 4th weekend to get some errands done (w/ mask and social distancing) and went up to Maine to my sister's house since most of my family was gathering there for the holiday. Other than that, I am pretty much apartment bound.
I love not going into an office, but we will have to start up again on Aug 3rd, going in every other week, however I still get to wfh every Friday as I usually did before this whole thing started. I suppose that will be dealable unless infection rates start to pick back up here again.

(34,076 posts)Restaurants that relied heavily on their liquour sales for profits were losing money even if they were able to switch to takeout - so early on any restaurant that had a liquour license was permitted to sell a limited quantity of alcohol with meals.
That was at least a pressure relief valve for places that had a mixture of alcohol and food sales.

(17,863 posts)The only times I have been inside besides my house since March has been the grocery store twice and the hair stylist once, but I am an introvert.
I can see how it would be hard for some people to forego the socializing. I personally don't like crowds, but I do miss our summer of community festivals with their cover bands.

(13,603 posts)I dodged the bullet, apparently, but I lost two older brothers to alcoholism. Through them, I learned just how widespread and common it is. For example, in the medium-sized city where we all grew up, there are dozens of, maybe even over 100, different AA chapter meetings EVERY DAY!
