Trump defends golf outings: It's my 'exercise'

President Trump defended his golfing in a Sunday morning tweet, calling the activity his “‘exercise.’” Trump’s Saturday visit to the Trump National Golf Club in northern Virginia was the 275th time he visited a golf club as president and the 273rd time he traveled to one of his golf clubs as president.

Trump criticized former President Barack Obama for playing golf during his time in office. Trump had said he might not see his properties if he was elected “because I’m going to be working for you, I’m not going to have time to go play golf,”

“My ‘exercise’ is playing, almost never during the week, a quick round of golf,” the president said. “When I play, Fake News CNN, and others, park themselves anywhere they can to get a picture, then scream ‘President Trump is playing golf,’” he added. “Actually, I play VERY fast, get a lot of work done on the golf course, and also get a ‘tiny’ bit of exercise. Not bad!”

Last month, Trump reportedly could not be reached at his Virginia golf club by White House officials after he tweeted a video included a protester yelling “white power.” Officials told NBC News the video remained on his feed for more than three hours because of the delay (in contacting Trump).

And having your caddy kick the ball within reach of the cart or drop a new ball if necessary doesn't count, either. There's a reason he only ever plays on courses he owns.

For a fun read, check out Commander in Cheat for a compendium of the many golf related things Donald has lied about over the years. There is nothing too big or too small for this man to lie about.

when he played he actually DID get exercise while playing golf because he WALKED the WHOLE course. He felt that using a cart was a type a cheating and defeated the purpose of getting some fresh air and exercise.

Trump uses a cart and his 'quick round' (2 1/2 hours or more for 18 holes depending on how many he's playing with), it still costs taxpayers a LOT of money and, most of the time, makes HIM money since he goes to HIS properties and HIS properties charge everyone else to stay there, rent carts, eat, etc. I have a hunch that they probably temp charge Trump as president now too. He and his family are all grifting hypocrites.

Oh and to you lurking Cult45 twits... I'm not against a president occasionally playing golf or doing something 'fun' occasionally. I'm against HYPOCRISY, LYING and GRIFTING the American taxpayers like TRUMP and most of his family are doing. If you're not against him playing golf all of the time but were President Obama's occasionally playing a round... you.are.a.racist.asshole.

28. From a New Yorker article about the book Commander in Cheat:
Sun Jul 12, 2020, 01:04 PM
Jul 2020
In the new book “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Donald Trump,” the sportswriter Rick Reilly has pulled these stories together and found some new ones. Relying on testimony from playing partners, caddies, and former Trump employees, Reilly pokes more holes in Trump’s claims than there are sand traps on all of his courses combined. It is by turns amusing and alarming. “Trump doesn’t just cheat at golf,” Reilly notes. “He cheats like a three-card Monte dealer. He throws it, boots it, and moves it. He lies about his lies. He fudges and foozles and fluffs.”

Reilly recounts a time when Trump was declared the senior club champion at Trump National Bedminster, in New Jersey, even though he was in Pennsylvania on the day that the event was played. “He’d declared that the club should start having senior club championships for those 50 and up, but he forgot that one of the best players at the club had just turned 50,” Reilly writes. “Having zero chance of beating the guy, he went up to his Trump Philadelphia course on the day of the tournament and played with a friend there. Afterward, according to a source inside the Bedminster club, he called the Bedminster pro shop and announced he’d shot 73 and should be declared the winner. The pro, wanting to stay employed, agreed. His name went up on the plaque.”

Some of his tactics are blatant: not counting foul shots, dropping balls closer to the hole, and improving his lies. At Winged Foot, a storied New York course where Trump is a member, Reilly tells us, “the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: ‘Pele.’ ” (For those who don’t know soccer, the Brazilian Pelé was one of the best kickers of a ball in history.)

And Trump doesn’t only give himself unfair advantages: he’s also been known to hobble his opponents. On another occasion recounted by Reilly, Trump was playing with Mike Tirico, the sportscaster, who hit a long, soaring second shot into a par five, high-fived his caddy, and headed for the green. When he got there, there was no sign of his ball; it had somehow ended up in a sand trap some fifty feet left of the pin. “Lousy break,” Trump said. Tirico was so befuddled that he took a seven. Afterward, Trump’s caddy told Tirico that his approach shot had actually finished up about ten feet from the hole. “Trump threw it into the bunker,” the caddy said. “I watched him do it.”
