Coronavirus in India: Failing to wear a mask means volunteering at a COVID-19 hospital

"The Indian city of Gwalior has a simple order for those who fail to wear a face mask in public, they will be forced to work as volunteers at COVID-19 hospitals and police checkpoints.

Gwalior District Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh issued an order, after a meeting with officials as part of Madhya Pradesh government’s 'Kill Corona’ campaign.

According to the order, violators will have to pay a fine as well as work as volunteers for three days in hospitals, fever clinics, treating COVID-19 patients and at police checkpoints...."

And that is what is needed here!

Never work here but awesome idea.

If we can't get people to simply wear a mask to protect themselves, but more importantly others because it 'violates their rights', imagine how well an order to make them work would go over.

I'll be curious to see how well it works in Gwalior.

Imagine what it would be like if we locked people up for disobeying a legal order to show up for work because they wouldn't wear a mask, in a country where just wearing a mask is apparently a bridge too far where their rights are concerned.

The 'you're infringing on my rights by recommending that I wear a mask' folks would literally blow this country up. Full-blown civil unrest.

They'd probably take medical waste and smear it on patients. Piss in ventilators. Shit in drip feed IV bags.

Though none should be assigned to be anywhere around patients who need expert care, they could be made to do sanitizing, and help remove dead bodies. Or even just watch the COVID frontline work for eight hours a day for at least three days in a CCTV monitoring room.

Your imagery, good lord!

Forcing people to witness suffering is rough, but they'll know it's not nearly as rough as what the sufferers are going through, and they will come to realize they could have helped prevent.

closer attention to what human and economic damage their leaders do, and maybe (just maybe) up their standards in candidates.

They'll at least see what a sympathy for science and expertise is, even if they don't want to lean into it. Once green climate change industries offer jobs, they'll at least see some personal benefit.

Trump's own jail substitute should be to have to watch COVID suffering on a TV with no controls for him, for at least ten hours a day. He should also be on camera 24/7/365 as a record of his witness to reality.

in Asian countries Masks were already common for things like pollution or like Japan it was their police culture where if they were sick it was just polite to wear a mask.
