Trump on private border wall segment: 'It was only done to make me look bad'

Saying it was done to embarrass him, President Donald Trump on Sunday said a reportedly defective section of his new border wall should not have been built by a private company.

ProPublica and the Texas Tribune reported Thursday that a segment of the wall along the Texas-Mexico border was showing dangerous “signs of erosion“ only months after being completed. The section was constructed by Fisher Industries of North Dakota, whose owner called the design a “Lamborghini.” It cost $42 million.

I disagreed,” Trump tweeted Sunday, “with doing this very small (tiny) section of wall, in a tricky area, by a private group which raised money by ads. It was only done to make me look bad, and perhsps it now doesn’t even work. Should have been built like rest of Wall, 500 plus miles.“ (The misspelling of “perhaps” was part of the tweet.)

And half the front again.

It’s maybe 215 miles, and 212 were already there.

Remember when the wall in California fell over due to high winds? That was replacement that trump said fell over due to fresh concrete still being wet.

Important context as Pres Trump tours Arizona & boasts about building hundreds of miles of wall: Trump has added *3 miles* of new barrier where no barrier existed before he took office.

It’s taken 3.5 years & about $15 billion to replace about 180 miles of outdated fencing.

...I've been keeping up on it.
I started paying very close attention when I started computing $20 & $30 million per mile.
It's a broken promise, a waste of money, & a boondoggle all at once.
I was just kidding in my first post.

(CNN)A construction company that has been repeatedly touted by President Donald Trump and his allies has been awarded a major border wall construction contract valued at more than $1.2 billion, a US Army Corps of Engineers spokesperson told CNN on Tuesday.

News of the deal comes as the company's December border contract -- worth $400 million -- continues to be reviewed by the Defense Department inspector general in response to a request from Congress. House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, said at the time that a series of actions "raise concerns about the possibility of inappropriate influence" on the decision to award the firm a contract.

"I am requesting that you review the award of this contract to ensure that the bid submitted by Fisher Sand and Gravel Co. met the solicitation standards and that USACE made the award in accordance with federal procurement law and regulations," Thompson wrote at the time, referring to the US Army Corps of Engineers.

While the President has publicly touted Fisher, the company has a history of red flags -- including more than $1 million in fines for environmental and tax violations. A decade ago, a former co-owner of the company pleaded guilty to tax fraud and was sentenced to prison.

Governors only ask for ventilators to make me look bad. Doctors and nurses only ask for PPE to make me look bad. People only paint BLM to make me look bad. People only protest police brutality to make me look bad.

It's amazing that so many people, even his own supporters, pour so much time & energy into making him look bad.
