The most dangerous period: Nov. 3, 2020 to Jan. 20, 2021

Once Trump is crushed, he will still have the power of the presidency for two and a half months.

There's one fact that everyone should understand. If/when Trump loses, he will not go quietly. And once he realizes he's about to lose his power, his first instinct will be to destroy everyone and everything he can destroy.

I don't see a way to prevent this. Do you?

A second impeachment trial, while in the middle of a pandemic and wrecked economy and just a few months before the election, would look extremely partisan and may hurt us more than it would help.

It could potentially make Democrats look like they value another impeachment without conviction more than rescuing the country the pandemic and bad economy.

Republican Senators might convict a lame duck who just cost them big in the election.

the lame duck session, as long as we have both houses of Congress and the WH, we should be able to undo any executive orders he tries to implement

Doubtful any legislation could get through in that three month time period, especially taking into consideration that holiday period that occurs

and there is so much he can do without congressional approval. For example:

He can order all the kids in cages be immediately deported.

He can withdraw any FEMA aid being given to states to fight Covid.

He can order the military to occupy Syria or wherever.

He can declare martial law due to Covid and that would give him virtually unlimited power.

In short, this dangerous creature can do an incredible amount of damage without congressional approval.

recess, if he appoints them during that time, I think it can be argued that Congressional approval is necessary, and it can be reversed

I worry most about right now

At first he won't concede.
He and his lawyers will contest every state election they can and try to throw it up to the Supreme Court.

It will take time for that process to play out so there might be a little breather before the arsonist emerges but we may well see violent bloodshed before it's over.

Of course, no legislation will pass. The House will block anything the Senate might do.

I could see Trump and McConnell trying to cram through as many judges as possible, especially if Democrats take the Senate back. Trump will also go on a pardoning frenzy and an executive order frenzy. The EOs can be reversed, but the rest can’t. ☹️

friends. And there will be nothing we can do about it. From his point of view he has nothing to lose if he does it so why not?

Then we come to the Justice Department. He will do everything he can to destroy the Justice Department before he leaves office and Barr will go along with it. The idea is to make the Justice Department so dysfunctional that it will take the new administration years to fix it. And so if the new administration decides to indict him for his crimes they will be severely handicapped in that effort.
