They have no reason to believe that there is anything wrong with his tax returns, the presidents lawyer insisted. All of them have been audited and all of them have either been passed on or settled.
There should be some finality in tax returns, Giuliani continued. In other words, we get audited, we make a deal, we pay the government you dont come after me forever for that. And also, this is the president of the United States.
Giuliani warned that up to 4,000 prosecutors can now come after Trumps financial records.

(6,182 posts)Oh! And Rudy, they don't have to come after you/Trump forever...you aren't going to live that long.
But 4,000! You guy must be really deep into shit to have 'em lined up like that to get a piece of you.
It couldn't happen to nicer people..really, nicer people wouldn't be in that situation.
But then, here you are. It speaks volumes of what you must know about your, and Trump's financial dealings.

(10,011 posts)but the IRS needs to see and compare the documents supplied to Deutsche Bank for loans to the results shown on Trumps tax returns. I suspect they bear little relationship to each other.

(3,256 posts)The feds can wave it off, but i think New York will prosecute and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. I've never filed in New York, but all of the states I've lived in use the federal numbers on the forms.

(2,273 posts)The EDNY and SDNY are federal prosecutors who work for DOJ and Barr. However, NY State prosecutors like the NY Attorney General and Manhattan District Attorney Vance are totally out of Barrs and Donnies control. (Fun fact: I worked for Vances father, Cy Vance Sr. when he was US Secretary of State).

(16,928 posts)to have you here as a relatively new member of DU (sorry for the delay in the welcome - things have been busy lately!).
Please feel free to share input and ideas that were part of the foundation of activities in the State Department while you were there.
It's the old "those who don't learn from history" thing and I'm worried that before BunkerBoy is gone that we'll even have a State Department!

(2,273 posts)Actually, the structure of the Dept. has remained largely intact, and except for several Donnie sycophants at the top, even some of the Assistant Secretaries are career foreign service officers or professional foreign-policy experts brought in from think tanks and academia. Naturally, they have to tow the proverbial line, and the political appointees are republicans, but apart from Pompeo and several at the very top, I dont detect any Trump cult members. Overseas, most Ambassadors are still career officers, though the most desirable postings of course are encumbered by large donors or people with a special relationship with Donnie (e.g- David Friedman, Amb. to Israel, used to be Donnies bankruptcy lawyer).
In summary, I would say that no permanent, irreversible institutional damage has been done to the State Dept., as those at the very top in DC will of course be replaced as will also Trumps politically-appointed Ambassadors abroad.

(16,928 posts)of course this is one of the MANY things that will need serious attention when Joe takes office. I truly believe he has the intelligence and sense to take advantage of career veterans to help put this country back on track after the destructive BunkerBoy mis-administration.
Thank you!

(28,347 posts)primary worries.
Since the days of Tillerson, what we heard was the gutting of the State Department, and it's been preying on my mind ever since. I understand that not all countries have an ambassador in place, which is not good.
I've been a Biden supporter from the beginning because of his knowledge and experience in foreign affairs. My thoughts are that he will rebuild the Department and repair our international relations. He will mend grievances and ensure that we stand with our allies, and show strength to our foes.
I am hearten by your words. I needed to hear this.
Yes indeed, no irreversible damage has been done. Our allies understand what were going through and that its merely a sad stage in our history, but that it will change with sane and non-compromised new leadership.

(383 posts)Technically, he would get Secret Service protection in prison. It would be the Secret Services worst possible security detail, centered completely on protecting him in prison.
