PENNSYLVANIA. A fed judge denied ballot access relief to third party candidates, refusing to cut state's petition signature requirements nor change the existing Aug 3 filing deadline. The court said that with state now reopening, candidates can collect in-person signatures.

(5,557 posts)Libertarian party and Constitution party together soaked up 170k votes in PA. I see the overwhelming majority of those voting republican.
Green party soaked up only 50k, which I would expect to almost all vote for Biden.
Trump won the state by 55k votes.

(8,301 posts)Do not consider third party. Even with a lp candidate, his lead narrows.

(58,785 posts)collection of signatures to get on ballot? Of course any reverse is likely to hurt a candidate without proper organization, including timely and proactive actions. Just looked and only 300 signatures are needed to run as an independent for state rep, 500 state senator, 1000 U.S. congressman, 2000 for governor and U.S. senator.
Big deal, a candidate alone, with no staff or volunteers, should have been able to gather 50 a day easily when PA wasn't locked down. And the filing fees are very low.
But I don't see if electronic petitions are in use. ?
