Nobody likes flight delays but a trio of Spirit Airlines passengers had a violent reaction when their flight from Fort Lauderdale to Philadelphia was delayed late Tuesday.
Three female passengers from Philadelphia, all in their early 20s, started assaulting five Spirit employees at Gate G14, according to police reports from the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
"The defendants intentionally struck the victims against their will with miscellaneous items, such as phones, shoes, full water bottles, metal boarding signs and fast food,'' according to police reports from the Broward County Sheriff's Office. "The victims were also punched and kicked in different sections of their bodies numerous times by the listed defendants.''
The incident was captured on video, which was first reported by a Miami television station.

These young women are idiots. Don't they realize that airports are governed by Federal laws? They have really screwed themselves legally and I hope they face the most severe punishments their transgressions allow.
By the way, all airlines should ban them for life.
Where do people get the idea they can use physical force to get on a plane?

(58,785 posts)Good guess this acting out arises from the "spiritus mundi." Lots of mean stupidity in the air, and it's as catching as Covid. Then, they're all adolescents, not biological adults.
And, no excuse, but a possible further explanation, given their aggressive hostility before they even progressed to violence, I think it's a pretty good bet they, or at least the leading two, are culturally conservative by nature, and pretty strongly. Those're the ones behind probably 90% or more of this kind of behavior, and all skin colors are finding a lot of encouragement for it.
No doubt they have family who'll be involved in rescuing them from their mess. Btw, this story is in all their home media and farther, like the WaPo. No matter who pays the fines, they won't be getting off free. Or flying on this airline for a long time to come.

(6,930 posts)Excellent observation.
Of course this thread will fall like a stone for that very reason. If they were white idiots wearing MAGA hats, the thread would be a keeper for days lol.

(32,712 posts)I don't want to jump to conclusions, but are you (and the person you responded to) saying that DUers are unfair to MAGAts and that the same amount of scorn and derision should be applied to black people?

It's not really a "take", so much as a summary of your words. I didn't include how you find it funny.

(46,737 posts)Though the term works for white racist women who over-dramatize their racism, it can just as easily apply to improper, uncivil behavior. Lord knows we see too much of that. And, I've also seen the term "Karen" applied to men.

(58,785 posts)and also for misogyny. That collective white guilt meme going round a bridge from nasty miscrents to all wide enough to drive a 747 over.
I've said before that it injures black women because it's racist and because they are women. They can't achieve equality and what should be complete acceptance as people while racist attitudes toward them are encouraged by free indulgence of racism against other targets. OR while women are targets of special bigotry and discrimination. And black women are extra special targets, abused over white women, black men, and white men.
In any case, the racism and misogyny of this smear quickly became so strong that I don't see how use could be "normalized" to some kind of respectability. (Even if it weren't fundamentally mean to real Karens.) No matter how many badly behaved black men a crusader tried to get "Karen" to stick to, it's not going to happen. And imo very much for the best.

(89,252 posts)to deal with it is to avoid flying them again in the future. And you certainly don't attack the people working there who aren't the ones making decisions on delays and cancelled flights.
