What the heck is Georgia's governor doing? (CNN)

CNN Politics

On Wednesday in Georgia, there were almost 4,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Almost 2,800 people are hospitalized due to Covid-19, the highest number in the state's ongoing battle against the virus. A total of 37 people died, the highest number of daily deaths since June 25, according to data from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

How did Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) respond to this obvious surge in Covid-19 in his state? By signing an executive order banning cities and counties from mandating that people have to wear a mask when in public.

Yes, really. This, from the AJC's Greg Bluestein, lays out exactly what Kemp did on Wednesday night:

"Though Kemp's previous orders have barred local governments from taking more restrictive steps than the state, the rules he signed on Wednesday were the first to explicitly ban cities and counties from requiring the use of masks or other face coverings.

"The governor has said he believes requiring masks are a 'bridge too far' and that such a mandate is unenforceable. Instead, he's forcefully urged Georgians to don face coverings and warned not doing so threatens the college football season."

Lots of chicken and pork processing is done in Georgia. So, lots of immigrants from Central and South America working in them.

He says masks are "unenforceable". So what was the "forceful" part again?

Is Kemp's Covid response simply storm and fury?

Kemp extended a BAN of public gatherings of 50 or more people and EXTENDED health restrictions on businesses. Now, this decision only applies to public places like streets, parks and government offices/bldg's. Business can still require patrons to wear masks. But get this, not only does Kemp refuse to PROTECT state workers, he callously refuses to allow MAYORS to PROTECT their own city workers. Right now in Georgia, the DMV requires you to SET AN APPOINTMENT to visit their offices, taking a week or more for an opening. Now MASKLESS NITWITS can visit the DMV possibly transmitting COVID to employees. What is going to appen as employees get sick and there is a cut in staff. Service is going to go down. AND WORSE....come November no MASK REQUIREMENT at polling stations! Standing in line with maskless fools for more than fifteen minutes! BIG RISK! What could go wrong? I think this is what this REALLY is about! DISCOURAGING VOTERS!

Tell their police to enforce it (warnings first, fines later) and tell the governor if he doesn't like it he can fight them in court over the issue.
