NY Judge in Trump's Tax Return Fight: Why Are We Still Here?

A week after the Supreme Court ruled President Donald Trump is not immune from turning over his tax returns and other financial records to the Manhattan district attorney, the president’s legal team said in a Thursday hearing they intended to keep fighting the “wildly over-broad subpoena”—an argument slammed by prosecutors as a back-door attempt to create temporary “absolute immunity.”

Federal Judge Victor Marrero—who originally presided over the case and denied the president’s efforts to block Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance from subpoenaing eight years of Trump’s tax returns last year—questioned both sides in a Thursday hearing about what has changed since his previous ruling.

In the video hearing, Marrero hinted that he had already addressed the president’s concerns last October and only new information would change his mind.

Last August, Vance’s office issued a subpoena to Mazars, the president’s accounting firm, as part of the investigation into hush-money payments allegedly made to several women before the 2016 election. The president has denied having affairs with these women, but Vance said the financial records dating back to 2011 were crucial to see if business records were falsified and if any tax laws were violated.

The cat/dog ate the hard copies of their documents, and -- somehow -- they forget to scan them into PDF files.
Aliens from the Galaxy Andromeda moved all records to their spaceship in their desire to achieve true enlightenment. And the Space Farce isn't able to wrestle back those records.
The Corona Virus infected their computers and deleted all these evidentiary files.
It's god's will that he be absolved of any/all crimes because he's only doing god's will.

They've lost the case. And now, they're just stalling, hoping to stretch this out until, say, November 4.

It's not up to them to comply. It's up to mazers, a private accounting firm holding trumps taxes. All the wh lawyers can do is try to delay. They aren't holding the taxes themselves. This isn't a subpoena of the irs.

So unless someone has physically destroyed all electronic and paper copies mazers may have, there is no way for the wh to stop it once the courts order mazers to comply. Mazers has said they will.

There is however, a very good chance that no copies exist. Certainly the copies at the irs have been secreted away, and may no longer exist even electronically (yes, the guvvies can do that). Trump may have destroyed his personal copies, or at least hidden them so nobody can get at them.

It's possible mazers is the only source of those returns left in existence, which may mean they no longer exist. Documents related to trump seem to keep disappearing, whether at the national enquirer, trump's companies, or his shady enablers.

Color me cynical.

is what prosecutors are seeking. They only have access to state returns, and a very limited amount of data from federal returns.

The irs has already said they collected ALL copies of trumps federal returns and put them under lock and key. They also said they were restricting electronic access to the secretary alone.

I've heard a lot of people say that you can't delete records from federal databases. It is done all the time. The backups become useless once the encryption keys are shredded. We aren't talking about an 80's vintage email system. The databases that hold information on key public figures are treated as ts/sci material. Records can disappear very completely once an order is given. If trump orders them destroyed, they will be gone forever from gov't access. Same for those meeting notes they stuffed into classified servers. One order, a few minutes, and it's done and irreversible.

Could some hero civil servant have printed some copies off under obama and hidden them in some file? Not likely. The doj would have been at their desk five minutes after they accessed them. They watch for people accessing records of candidates very closely (or they did when the doj actually worked). And the trump regime will have turned over every garbage can looking for stray copies.

So if nys has copies of his federal returns, it was because someone not liked by trump gave them copies. But those copies couldn't be used in court unless there was a strong chain of custody (which mazers can prove). Someone like cohen couldn't because he didn't prepare them and wasn't responsible for them. trumps lawyers would simply claim they aren't authentic and suppress them.

So I'm not sure what nonsense you are referring to. But t go to court nys has to get copies from mazers. If mazers destroyed them, the game ends in a scream of anguish. But it most definitely ends.

The irs is supposed to be non-political, and its files are protected by law to not allow political fishing trips.

Parties in power are not supposed to use the government agencies to spy on political adversaries.

Of course, trump has bulldozed over those protections. Not only have they likely downloaded every dems tax return to gop databases, they have been reported to be using covert intel assetts to hunt for dirt on dems.

It's right there in the autocrats instruction manual.

Democracies don't work that way, but trump has solved that by destroying this country. Putin must be very proud.

placed on assets. Valuations that are vastly different from the ones he listed on loan applications to secure loans. This is illegal. If he had inside help at the bank and they used falsified tax returns his true tax returns being examined by a DA would spell big trouble not just for Twitler but for those complicit at the bank. If he blackmailed those at the bank to be complicit he’s in even more trouble. I’ve no doubt this is what happened.

My own suspicions involve insolvency (it IS the way real slumlords operate - maximum leverage, maximize deductions, never fix anything, never answer in court), something shameful, historical origins of all that cash, or most likely a nexus of many types of illegal, illicit, or compromising activity globally. You gotta admit, the guy has a hand in everything.

These delays should end. Now.
