Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) has a message to people thinking of abandoning President Donald Trump and the Republican Party in Novembers elections: Remember how fine life was before the coronavirus pandemic?
The GOP incumbent, facing what polls show is a tough re-election race this fall, argued that voters should judge his party based on the economys performance before the spread of the disease ― and not the Trump administrations bungled handling of a public health crisis that has resulted in the deaths of more than 130,000 people and left about 30 million unemployed Americans. Most GOP leaders ― including Tillis ― have been unwilling to publicly hold Trump accountable for the failed response.
The stakes are very high this election, but you know why I know were going to win? Tillis asked in a Friday night speech at the North Carolina Republican convention, which was held virtually because of the spread of coronavirus. Because people remember how good their lives were back in February.
Pressing his point, Tillis said, Can you imagine if we had had a Democrat president and a Democrat majority in the Senate and the House, what our economy wouldve looked like at the worst possible time? At least we had that economy to buttress us while we fight and ultimately win the COVID war.

Hey Goober Tillis, we did have a Democratic president and a Democratic majority. That's why Trump inherited such a good economy from Obama.

(10,832 posts)Unbelievable! He and maybe the Trump campaign itself is relying on amnesia to win? How great things were back in February means forgetting our current peril but also every rotten decision Trump and the GOP has made since Day 1. Btw, we entered an economic recession in February.
Babies in cages, anyone? Racist rhetoric gone off the rails, the defense of Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville (very fine people), the sickening performance in Helsinki, just to name a few. What about the murder of African Americans at the hands of our police, on tape, no way to pretend it didn't happen? Whatta we get? Oh yes, it's terrible but white people are murdered, too.
Republicans are counting on the Kool-Aid and QAnon voters for an absolute embrace of their madness.
I agree with those who have noted that there are two pandemics raging in the country: the Covid-19 pandemic and a pandemic in craziness. Both appear highly infectious.
