Why did so many Repukes line up behind Trump?

That is one thing that Mary Trump said surprised her and compelled her to write the book. Instead of people keeping him in check, they ended up on their knees. I have 2 theories:

1. They, being repukes, are naturally sleazy and were afraid that Donald, having access to dirt on them, would expose them.

or

2. They were afraid of Putin harming them in some way, so they sold out the US along with 45.

Any shred of any patriotism, integrity, ethics, morality (that they all used to try to pretend they owned) would require them to stand up to him. And one would think that hitching their wagon to that idiot would also raise some internal alarms about their own political futures. I just don't get it.

Hopefully it will lead to the downfall of Repuke-ism for generations to come, giving progressives time to fix this clusterfuck. It's just a shame that so many had to suffer and/or die to expose them for what they are.

The base doesn't give a damn about anyone in the party except 45. They have to march to his beat or else he will throw them to the wolves.

The republican "base" has been shrinking for a very long time. Now, it's merely a rump party consisting of racists and oligarchs. So, to keep their jobs, republicans have to pander to this collective group, referred to as the "deplorables."

Although a definite minority, they win because they know how to get their voters to the polls, plus they are financed by a vast global network of oligarchs who can freely funnel them money secretly through legalized "dark money" channels. This used to be illegal until Citizen's United.

When it was apparent that they needed to moderate some of their positions to relate to an increasingly diverse and secular nation. But by then it was too late. The Tea Party Types were already too powerful.

They got lucky in 16 because we ran a very unpopular candidate. We all loved Hillary but the independents did not. Non did too many non-political democrats. But that won’t happen this year.

"Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican" It was a strategy that worked well for them; while we argued and attacked one another, they unified.

But it looks as though Trump has forced them to abandon it; republican PACs are targeting Trump and supporting Biden.

There are obviously going to be some of them that have a lot of dirt they want to keep from paying for, but the universal fealty to him is overwhelmingly voluntary.

They have drank the bullshit evil liberal boogyman Kool Aid that they have cranked 1/2 country into believing over the last half century, and with it the mindset that ANYTHING is justifiable in the holy and patriotic battle against them.

That is the core, but part of what got them there was having to distance their zombie base, and again themselves, from reality more and more over time to justify the disconnect between what they want to do and the actual reality of what that means, more and more over time, and with each thing they have justified, like locking kids up in cages, something so truly horrible that has LONG been forgotten, gets them more and more comfortable with full on authoritarian rule.

45 is a blooming idiot, but his one master skill is manipulating people's lesser instincts. We were headed down this path long before he came down the escalator. But, he took the whip from the GOP by more overtly saying, and doing, what the party has long winked and nodded at, there by gaining the adoration of the "base."

But, back to the point ... These assholes don't have a gun to their heads. They truly relish what is going on.
