Seriously, what will you do if tRump wins?

Knowing what you know already, will you do anything differently if he wins?

Moving your money, changing your child's school, moving to a Covid free country, moving to a blue city or state, slitting your own throat, etc.

Not very long ago he told me that he'd be exempt from a lot of the current restrictions on Americans. I'd encourage him to go to another country and hope that in due time I could join him. And if I couldn't, oh, darn. I'm already 71, and while I've been making plans for my 97th birthday (the eclipse of August, 2045) if I can't join him, I'll cause as much trouble as possible here.

Because I am already retired, money is not much of an issue for me. Depending on how you define it or draw a line, I'm really not rich. I have enough to get by, which is quite gratifying. I would consider going elsewhere, but it will depend on where my son winds up. See the first paragraph.

You're right about the EC.

We had a referendum here in the mid-90s on the topic of Australia becoming a republic. The NO votes won. A great deal of discussion was around the process of chosing a Head of State. Consensus seemed to be that it should be a ceremonial role, much like the current Governor General and Parliament would motor along with the running of the country.

I realise that wouldn't work in the US because it would mean dismantling your whole political system.

Already have money moved and a bank account and assets overseas, have already an agreement with my children taking online instruction for school and not going back to campus or living there, moving to a COVID-“managed” country with low numbers (Germany) and my US home base is the San Francisco Bay Area in California....

I realize though with my legal rights to be in Germany, I can do that whereas my fellow Americans without residency or citizenship rights in Germany don’t have that option or even the ability to travel there thanks to Trump.

It is my sincere and absolute serious recommendation to all my fellow Americans and DUers who have the means, to investigate the ability to get to Mexico, Canada and residency and citizenship in European countries, UK etc through their family of origin.

Several Jewish friends of mine from College are in the process of applying for German Citizenship under a law that grants citizenship to the surviving descendants of holocaust survivors. (Imagine that the descendants of holocaust survivors who escaped and survived Nazi Germany now want the ability to go there).

A girlfriend of mine whose parents were born in UK just made sure she has a British passport.

A friend of mine just agreed to marrying an Italian in order to have the ability to get out of US and reside legally in Italy.

We need to all think about our Plan B if this immoral psychopath remains in the White House.

I agree with Mary Trump about her Uncle....if he remains, this Nation and our Democracy, the “American Experiment” is dead....

I have never lived in Canada and, since I applied for and received my citizenship when I was a middle-aged adult, my grown child is NOT eligible for citizenship just for being my son.

So, he and his family would have to emigrate as total newbies and do all the paperwork required. He would like to do that, I think, but his wife would not. I waver between moving and preparing an "escape spot" for them, or staying to help with grandkids, etc. I've also heard that Canada has suspended/slowed all immigration requests until COVID is contained. As a Canadian, I could move there no matter what (after 14-day lockdown), but no one else could.

If we stay, we are considering moving north and/or northwest for an even more compelling reason -- climate change. I'd like to prepare a place for son and family to retreat to. But who knows.

We’ve stocked up on everything as there is another lockdown coming.

I will hope for my children but I can't spend the latter part of my life stressed out watching what Trump is doing to fuck things up. I feel like I have spent the last 3 1/2 years holding my breath until we can be saved.

I will spend as much time in the woods as I can.

Tune everything out, especially news and anything politics.

I'm perfectly capable of doing it. For example, at one time I bet baseball every day and knew every roster and all the particulars. Now I could not name one player or manager in the major leagues. I have watched one half inning of baseball in the past decade, the 9th inning when the Cubs won the Series.

There is zero chance I would pay attention to anything Trump. I'd also be less involved on sports sites because they would be outright jubilant and remain that way.

I follow true crime so I'd be spending more time on that. No nearly as much political talk in that realm.

If I lived in a red state I would seriously consider moving to a blue one, but I already own a home in New York State in a lovely rural area where many other progressives also live. This is my community and they are my people so I will stay. I'm 71, but if I were twenty years younger I might contemplate leaving the country, I know others who have. It could still come to that I suppose but at this point the social and economic disruption would not be worth it to me unless things deteriorated around me here to the point where life was becoming unlivable. Meanwhile I would still stand against Trump but no doubt would be despondent over the state of the world, and would personally slide more toward escapism. I would do what I could to be an ally to younger generations better positioned than I am to wage a decades long struggle against the darkness.

I stopped watching news when Ronald Reagan was elected.

I stopped believing in political change coming from Washington during the Clinton administration.

I realized that my fellow 'Murcans would turn to authoritarianism at the drop of a hat on 9/11.

I realized that the Republicans would destroy 'Murca without flinching during Obama's time.

I noted that 40% of my fellow citizens would gladly shoot themselves in the head on 5th avenue to please their God Emperor.

I noted that the entire country would reproduce and consume and reproduce and consume until the planet killed them without enough concern to actually stop.

I predicted Grump would "win" the 2016 election.
I predict he will "win" this election.

Everyone gets excited at the polls which show Biden 55% and Trump 40% without realizing that Trump is always at 40%. No matter what he does, almost half the country thinks he is God Emperor. That's terrifying.

I will keep my head down.

We have already modified our savings plan, we did that in 2007 and survived the crash, and again in 2016 to survive the Rump.

We can grow and preserve a lot of the food we eat. We are familiar with those locally who produce food, meat and dairy.

We have a good friends in Costa Rica and an open invitation to move there whenever we want for as long as we want should things get really violent.

Hopefully, within 10 years things will have calmed a bit - not necessarily gotten better, but no longer so frantic - and I can relax and enjoy my "golden" years.

For the rest of you? Good luck!

I survived the Duck and Cover fear of the "godless communists", Kennedy assassination, the 60's, Vietnam and the dominoes, Nixon, The Reagan & Nancy Show, the rise of the Right, Bush and "The Gulf War" television mini-series, the other Bush, 9/11, the crash of 2008, the opposition to Obama, the endless wars and (so far) "the uniquely underqualified and overblown king of bragging and whining" Mad King Rump, known professionally as Fuckface von Clownstick.

I'll make it the rest of the way.

He has the support of The Democratic voters. And people like Obama. Have you ever heard of him? Not to mention the Clintons.

Democrats riding his coattails are out raising republicans across the country. Reliable red states have moved into likely or toss-up column.
