Isn't there, among other issues, a subject matter jurisdiction problem here?

(34,137 posts)Harassing people. They have stopped Greyhound buses to pull of people suspected of not having the right papers. Since they claim the right to "patrol" within 100 miles of the US border and pretty much there is no where in Florida less than 100 miles from a coast, they "patrol" the entire state.

(34,137 posts)The masked guys in camouflage never identified themselves, never told the man being kidnapped why they were accosting him, and refused to respond to the bystanders (I loved the woman telling them to "Use your words!" .
Absolute fascism is the only description I can give this.

(4,612 posts)Portland is about 60 miles to the ocean, as the crow flies. From there, another 50 miles to international waters, right? Isn't that our border?
That would make Portland 110 miles from the border.

(82,849 posts)This is the kind of abuse of authority that leads to congressional reforms. And when the Border Patrol complains about it, they are the first in line for the blame.

(82,849 posts)There's also a square, Terry Schrunk Plaza, that is considered federal property and the Edith Green/Wendall Wyatt Federal Building. Once the nose of that camel is in the tent, though, the federal agents began pursuing people who weren't on the blocks of the federal building, courthouse or plaza. State and municipal authorities are asking for answers.
Unfortunately, the feds can hold someone for 72 hours without having to go before a magistrate or a judge, and CBP is using that leniency in the law to take people into custody then releasing them when they decline to talk and start asking for a lawyer. Another abuse of authority that could have very bad consequences when Congress starts considering reforms.

(51,197 posts)There's a reason there's no paperwork of these people being arrested. There's no probable cause and they'd have to file fake reports to justify their actions. I trust the ACLU to pursue this.
