https://ew.com/movies/antonio-sabato-jr-conservative-movie-studio/Antonio Sabato Jr. wants to start a new Hollywood movie studio geared toward conservative content.
The Melrose Place and The Bold and the Beautiful actor claimed on Twitter that he wants to launch a conservative movie studio, that will produce projects that Hollywood would never do.
To all conservative producers who want to make a change this is the time, get in touch with me, and be part of our team, he wrote. "Blacklisting in Hollywood and around my industry is about to be over forever. We are not going to be bullied by you any longer!"

(24,377 posts)Theres a very good reason why this nonsense is even a thing, if youll pardon the colloquialism, because a conservative political ideology just doesnt sell. Most people dont want to go out to the movies Or any other entertainment and be preached at by some divisive nitwits.
If they did, Dennis Miller would be selling out 25,000 seat arenas. He never has and he never will.

(4,919 posts)I just got into trouble in a Facebook group devoted to science fiction. Someone complained there was too much discussion about politics discussed in the group. My contention was science fiction is by definition political... It's about societies and systems... not individuals. You can't watch or read a science fiction story without the question being begged... "How did this society get here?"
I got in trouble by further pointing out that it seemed the folks complaining were always Conservative Republicans whose minds are blown when someone points out how their favorite shows/episodes had political backstories that were contrary to their worldview.
I suggested they stick to playing with playing with their spaceship models in "Pew! Pew!" laser dogfights in their basements. I expect to be banned by the end of the day.

(33,198 posts)Kurt Vonnegut went on about it in quite of few of his commentaries about his works placement in that genera.
He said Sci-fi was a means of scrutinizing and commenting on current events in an oblique manner designed to amuse the intelligentsia while maintaining enough plausible deniability to keep you out of the gulag.
Which, has taken on a new urgency considering the tactics adopted by the maladministration over the past couple of days.
Ironic that fighting fascists and serving as a POW during WWII is what directly led to Vonnegut's writing.

I just hope the production value is higher than most of the stuff the right usually puts out - it's no fun trying to watch one of their documentaries and be constantly taken out of the story by shitty lighting, bad audio or heavy handed and misleading editing choices.
I just wish he wouldn't frame his new venture with the 'we're being prosecuted and blacklisted so we have to do it ourselves' schtick - just make stuff and if it resonates with people it will find an audience.
I'd love to see a well made documentary made by a true conservative director about issues that isn't just one long attack ad.

(4,167 posts)When it comes to art and entertainment. But I have the belief that for some reason when it comes to the arts whether you are talking about music, dance, acting, etc.. that most entertainers are liberals because it takes a enlightened, thoughtful, caring, informed brain to come up with brilliant entertainment that the masses love. Why do you think its so hard for Republicans to find music at their political events? Its because in order to make songs that touches peoples soul and entertains them as well takes an enlightened person

(63,221 posts)I can't really back this up - it's only been an observation of mine - but in general, most conservatives lack creativity, artistic talent, the ability to think abstractly and most of all, a sophisticated sense of humor.
To put it simply, they are boring. Some of them try, but they usually fail miserably. Good luck to him, but I really don't think he's going to be much of a threat to the current Hollywood establishment.

(6,011 posts)I have a son in the TV business. Not an actor, but allegedly a "producer" of some kind. 34 years old. Been in the "biz" about 10 years.
About 5 years ago, he went bat shit crazy right wing. He's basically become a "Proud Boy" type.
It was also 5 years ago when his employment prospects were reduced to being some kind of junior assistant to a junior assistant producer, when he can find work at all.
I think he must have run his mouth too much, and nobody wants to work with him. I'm guessing this is the case because of the way he runs his mouth to me.

But, they can whine and moan all the want, but while they are not perfect by any means, what comes with the actual talent to do "Hollywood," music outside of country, comedy, etc. is creativity, soul, spirit, etc. Just many things that conservatives have pretty clear deficiencies.

(15,265 posts)...is because acting and comedy are best done by people who are better in tune with the human condition, and better at putting themselves inside other people's heads, people who have a talent for seeing things from other people's point of view.
Conservatives are generally terrible at this. Their attempts to understand people different than themselves devolve into projection and/or ascribing evil motives and conspiracies to those people.
You can expect little more than ham-fisted schmaltz and propaganda (and often both at the same time!) out of a project like this.
Caliman73
(11,744 posts)Also, if you want to do comedy, you have to be able to laugh at yourself and see the absurdity of life with a sense of compassion for others. As you said very well, "conservatives are generally terrible at this".

Even most movies with a progressive message, have a message that's just subtle enough that you can miss it, or overlook it, and still enjoy the movie (at least some of the time). I've yet to see a conservative movie that's remotely that level of subtle.

(37,161 posts)Even if that was true, as conservatives, that's the Hollywood you want. That's the whole work market you want.
Everything is project-to-project. No work rights or enforceable constraints on the "job creators." The people making decisions can be as arbitrary as they want to be. It's their money, so that gives them the right. Right?
What on earth makes you think you have the right to an acting job? Are entitled to acting jobs?
Or maybe you guys should admit you don't have as much draw as you'd like to think. And the ones that might are too expensive for things that aren't super-hits. Ahh, but when that happens and your shows get cancelled, it's easier to blame "Hollywood liberals" than recognize that your show wasn't making money for the people it was supposed to be making money for, so they pulled the plug. Underperforming investment liquidated. That's the free market at work, guys! This is your paradise! You're living the dream!
So stop complaining, you self-absorbed twits.

(82,849 posts)Reaganville is the ideal small town. Everyone knows everyone else, nobody locks their doors at night or really anytime. The political and the business community work together to maintain their well-ordered community.
Then one fateful day . . . A VW minibus rolls down Main Street when it suffers a breakdown. The doors open and Hippies emerge into the sunlight, blinking and smelling of patchouli. With their unconventional garb, long hair, and wild ideas, they're instantly marked as troublemakers. Susie, a recent graduate of Reaganville High School approaches the Hippies to ask if she can offer them some assistance. She gets a little too close and inhales a whiff of the Hippies' deadly marijuana.
The rest, of course, practically writes itself. I'm not sure about the final conversation between Leroy, Reaganville's Negro, and Herb, the leader of the Hippies. Should Leroy just voice some encomium about knowing his place in Reaganville and being comfortable with that, walking away sorrowfully at Herb's crazy notions of equality? Or should Leroy drop Herb with one punch while telling him in no uncertain terms to get out of town?

Sabàto endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2016. He spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention in support of the party's presumptive nominee. Sabàto claimed that after he expressed his support for Trump, he was blacklisted from Hollywood. He later compared his struggle to find work in show business with that of being Jewish during the Holocaust and said celebrities mocked him on the social media website Twitter.
He has also admitted abusing crystal meth (Pretend shocked face) and he sounds unstable.
But he's blacklisted because he's conservative.
