This is about Canada wanting to continue to distance itself from a dysfunctional neighbour

The federal governments decision on Saturday afternoon to decline the Blue Jays request for a national interest exemption for cross-border travel served as the latest reminder that this pandemic is far from over.
Unlike a lot of previous infectious diseases, this one arrived on our doorstep. It shut down our economy for months, led to record unemployment levels and resulted in unprecedented stimulus packages from all levels of government. The virus still exists within our borders, but after a lot of hard work and sacrifice its more manageable than it was before.
The same cannot be said about the United States, a country which has descended into chaos and where something as simple as wearing a mask has become a hot-button political issue. There has been next to no leadership from the federal level, which has left each state fending for itself and coming up with its own guidelines. With more than 75,000 new cases reported Friday, the worst days are still ahead.
These are the reasons why Major League Baseballs regular season will not be taking place at the Rogers Centre this summer.
This was never about the sport itself. The Jays got caught up in something much bigger than a game. This is about Canada wanting to continue to distance itself from a dysfunctional neighbour who seems to have lost touch with reality.
