2 Accused Of Hitting Ocean County Mall Employee Over Mask Request

https://patch.com/new-jersey/tomsriver/2-accused-hitting-ocean-county-mall-employee-over-mask-request

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities are searching for two people who hit and spit at an Ocean County Mall store employee last week after she asked them to cover their faces with their masks.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. July 9, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The victim told police a man and woman walked into Zumiez, which sells skateboards and apparel, with their face masks hanging around their necks.

The victim, who works at Zumiez, told the two they needed to wear their masks properly to shop. She told police the man became irate, yelling, and picked up a belt and snapped it hat her, hitting her with the belt, Messina said.

As the man and woman left the store, the woman turned around and yelled at the employee, then spit at her, Messina said.

Just wear the f'n mask!
One of these tools is going to attack the wrong store employee and get their ass kicked.
Then, they'll doing some whining, and for once it will be justified. From the broken nose pain!

many stores aren’t telling employees to enforce mask orders.

The person making minimum wage doesn’t need to be harmed by jerks. They don’t need the extra responsibility of becoming a punching bag.

The person making minimum wage doesn't need to die or get sick from covid either.

You overcharge someone by a nickel and they act like you tried to rob them at gun point.

Even now as a customer I see how awful people can be to workers. People flip out over being charged for plastic bags. They yell and scream when the store is out of something. No way in hell would I martyr myself to fight anti-mask assholes. Hire security.

We have been open for 5 weeks now. We have had a few instances of people trying to enter without masks but management mans the doors to request masks or give them one if they dont have one. Very few people have been a problem, maybe one or two have just left instead of wearing a mask. Before the pandemic brick and motar stores were having enough of a problem staying open, with the pandemic it has made it worse. We dont have the funds to pay for another sales person let alone someone trained in security. With that in mind what do you think I should do? Let people come into the store without masks and endanger my employees and customers? Or should I enforce the mask rule and maybe martyr myself?

I just worry about the employees. When I was teen and early 20 something, some sweaty MAGA T-shirt wearing hulk would have terrified me.

Employees should always just get a manager if they are having problems, that is what we train in our company. No one is coming into my store without properly wearing a mask and I or my other managers deal with it.
