(139 posts)Wondering why mandate is not issued yet. Bonus: it would provide cover for a lot of small businesses that want to require masks but fear losing customers.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,735 posts)you have to wear a mask in indoor public places. I haven't been inside anywhere but my own house so I don't know how much compliance there is, but I hope there's a lot. Most people don't seem to be wearing them doing things like walking dogs outside, which isn't a problem. Even if compliance isn't perfect it will certainly help.

(65,076 posts)Is it a surge, yes. But, mostly because 5 weeks ago, positivity was 1.6%. It has gone up 2.5 fold.
But, it's not a surge of spike like the south. Most of those states have seen 4 or 5x increases in positivity. Like Florida going from 4 to 18+ is the same 5 weeks.
The upward trend is concerning, to be sure. But, it's much more moderated than in the southern surge states.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,735 posts)to a change in the reporting method and increased testing. Still, I was hoping the cases would start going down and not up.

(65,076 posts)Here in Illinois, we've seen positivity go from 2.1 to 2.9 in about 2 weeks.
It's 40% or so, but still tiny numbers. But, cases are rising quickly because they're testing around 45,000 per day. Tests were around 25,000/day in late May.
As long as that P% stays below 5 or so, a state's in ok shape.
Of course, these low positives have been without the kids in school since March 13.

(19,253 posts)It was 2.8% three weeks ago.
ProfessorGAC
(65,076 posts)They're showing 4.4% (7 Day Average) yesterday.
The recent peak was 5.1 on July 12.

(15,823 posts)Thats staggering! Never mind its not even close to what other states had today. It just looks like a lot by itself but comparable it not.

(90,347 posts)... explosion happens that affects the state and is born out in less than a month.
Were I live its 400 daily, we're going to be screwed by the end of the month

(19,565 posts)I've seen a spike in infant cases which is alarming, but I've also seen their deaths being reported more often. Anyone have any data on any of the infant mortalities?
