They will announce an effective vaccine by the end of October

Last edited Thu Jul 23, 2020, 01:25 PM - Edit history (1)

whether it is actually ready or not. Trump will take ALL the credit for it.

The question is will that sway enough gullible voters to swing a few States. The way the Comey bullshit did last time.

I put little faith in the intelligence of a large part of the American voters, and this has me up at night.

They're not going to rush to take a vaccine, because they make the earth flat and cause windmill cancer.

It will be a flop on top of all the other flops.

through election day, maybe be sure to vote early. We plan to.

Anyway, I don't think you should get too upset about the prospect of an effective vaccine being developed, even if first doses were available -- highly unlikely. It's not going to bring our dead back or rebuild devastated lives and economy.

heroes of science will encourage more people to vote for Trump? Hope and relief cause positive reactions.

Antagonism, meanness, hostility, despair, are all dark, negative emotions generated by anxiety and inability to feel hope and lead to voting for the dark side. That's why the Republicans do their best to keep them stoked up.

the not entirely crazy ones.

Every day, more and more people know someone who's died or been badly hurt by illness.

And of course every day more and more people lie awake worrying about how they're going to keep the electricity on and how much longer until the rear tires have to be replaced, but how? How are those tricked into believing Trump got them a tax break doing with all that "extra" money now?
Real estate prices are falling.

it will be much more widely understood that the reason is because of Trump and if they are smart more people will see other nations are almost back to normal with very few new deaths. Him announcing a vaccine won't exonerate him. In fact, it could have the opposite effect.

manipulate voter "anticipation" phase of the strategy. As far as building more votes, it could actually work for them, but hopefully not enough.

The truth is, while there may be an actual vaccine by year's end, there won't be a decidedly safe one for a year or more. But anticipation often surpasses reality, e.g., market investing, recreational experiences, etc.

Thu Jul 23, 2020, 11:28 AM

The scientific community would demand data and immediately poke holes in the vaccine calling it snake oil. The scientists developing the vaccine have their careers at stake and they won't sacrifice them for a couple of weeks worth of glory knowing that Trump will be defeated.

Scientists and companies that announce a vaccine will be tarred and feathered forever. Corporations don't like bad publicity especially when it will stay with them for the rest of their existence.

I don't think any of the vaccine manufacturers would risk it.

On edit -- the studies would need to show lasting immunity by Cytotoxic T cell studies and antibody retention as well as memory over a period of at least 6 months if not a year. So it is highly unlikely that significant data would emerge before January since the Phase 3 studies got underway in June.

There will be very few true undecideds in this election. Trump will have his racist base which will vote for him vaccine or not. No one will buy the vaccine story with caveats - especially in October.

I suspect that even remdesivir's approval will be reversed by the FDA - it is really not effective and I know people are cringing about it.

Remdesivir was approved with a lot of fanfare but didn't give Trump a bounce.

Thu Jul 23, 2020, 01:20 PM
Jul 2020

Donnie lacks the advantages he had in 2016. He’s a known quantity and a lot of the novelty interest of the lame-stream corporate media has worn off.

The Corona virus is chipping away at his voting strength. Older voters are vulnerable, they know they’re vulnerable, and many of them will remember who screwed up the response for the first nine months.

There’s also the viral recession: the assistance may help voters some, but a lot of people will be evicted or displaced as the landlords and mortgage-holders start proceedings. Oh, did I forget to mention the unemployment? I did, didn’t I?

A lot of mushy Trump fans got wised up: the burned hand DOES teach best.

Also, Joe has an extra advantage. People are angry, even if we aren’t all out on the streets. People laughed at Donnie in 2016, they sneered at Donnie in 2016, But they didn’t detest or hate Individual One like they do today. I think a lot of the 2016 Team Donkey sideliners will come out to kick his @$$ at the polls.

And even if Donnie does have a vaccine come out, do enough people trust him to get it to the people who need it fast enough?

I don’t think so.
