https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a33405490/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-sted-yoho-response-house-of-representatives-floor/There was a televised bloodbath on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday morning and nobody stepped in to stop it. The political career of Rep. Ted Yoho was eviscerated and its internal organs were put on display. On a point of personal privilege, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was granted an hour of debate time essentially to respond to Yohos ludicrous non-apology for having accosted her, and having called her a fcking bitch, on the steps of the Capitol earlier this week, and she and the Democratic caucus didnt waste a second of it. In his sad alibi speech, in addition to arguing that Jesus and patriotism made him do it, Yoho hid behind his wife and daughters. AOC wasnt having any of that, and she shredded this hoary dodge like a rotting old battle flag.

(23,238 posts)Once when I was a teenager, my grandfather had a cow about to have a calf, but it was coming out backwards. Vet was too far away to help, and grandfather's arms were too big to reach in and turn the calf around. Being young and having skinny arms, I had to do it. Aside from working for the IRS, it was the most disgusting thing I've ever had to do!
I try to block it out of my memory, but then you show me this!
(In your defense, you didn't know..... )

(15,325 posts)Now call out the words used to define Sec Hillary Clinton & Speaker Pelosi.
Not hard to find..google it.
Glad she brought this up. Now go a big step further for all women in politics who have met with the same & worse barage of denigrating comments.
There are women in Congress who have always had to suck it up in a male dominated field .
Start with Hillary & Pelosi, Warren & McCaskill & our legislatures who sucked it up while paving the way for more strong women in Congress. Those who put up with this same yuk, yuk, crap while holding their heads high & doing the job they were elected to do.
Make it a big fat issue for yourself & all women who have stood in your shoes.
Name these women as you name yourself.
Use your vouce
Thank you

(15,325 posts)Pelosi, Hillary, Warren....
AOC is hardly the 1st.
Say it on the House floor. Into the record.
To ignore the others who walked that bs for years before her, misses a necessary opportunity for those women leaders who will someday follow AOC herself.

(29,322 posts)We are the most diverse congress ever in the history of this country. 24% of us are women. 8% of us are women of color. Where does this all come from? It comes from the top it comes from the White House. Who calls women Crazy Nancy. Or such a nasty woman. Or a low I.Q. Person of a colleague of ours who serves as the chair of a committee. A crazed, crying, lowlife. Our colleague, Mr. Yoho, conducted himself like a hit-and-run driver. And he does not want to take responsibility for his conduct.

She also references Maxine Waters in that.
I'm sure she would speak up when it happens. She even had a problem with Sanders campaign promoting Rogan's endorsement.
It Was Like Pulling Teeth: AOC Backed Away from Sanders Campaign after Joe Rogan Endorsement
(snip)
But the progressive New York representative disagreed with the campaign over its decision to promote the endorsement of Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster who has been criticized by LGBT activists for opposing puberty blockers for gender-confused children. He has also spoken out against the participation of biological males competing in womens sports.

(15,325 posts)She has been given a voice & should use it to right the wrongs of the many women in congress who have had to exist with this same bs from their male legislatures for years & years.
Start by naming the names of these female leaders who walked this path before her, & those who will follow her someday.
LizBeth
(9,952 posts)start by addressing it when we yell out sexist slur to feminize a Republican or call a Republican woman this or Karen, but then call out the rw when they do. What this man did was no different than what I see countless times here and on my liberal FB walls. Just has me shaking my head every time. Thank you. Sexism, like racism, like homophobia is not something I let slide ever, or what does that say about me. And I gotta tell you, it is not like I want to speak up, but again, what does that say about me if I do not.

(6,477 posts)Why not just "righteousness?" Why "self righteousness?"
I'm confused. In my region of the country, calling somebody "self righteous" is an insult. Maybe that's different elsewhere. Do you think AOC is being "self righteous" rather than plain old "righteous?" That's odd.
LizBeth
(9,952 posts)but said it was a good righteous, a right righteous. I will correct it so it is clear. Thanks.

(22,129 posts)to run solely for office by ranting and raving about the ills of the world (and then doing nothing about it of course).
Yoho is a deranged idiot for mouthing off, and of course invoking the name of Jesus and patriotism to justify it somehow (disgusting). It just goes to show you what a pathetic coward this guy is, hiding behind his wife and family. Can't even 'man' up enough the courage to truly apologize like he should. I think personally this is going to bite him in the a&& in his future endeavors (as it should) and he's going to pay the price repeatedly for his ignorant mouth.

(13,041 posts)There's an expression: "What you're filled with inside will overflow to the outside." This type of misogynist, abusive behavior towards women just doesn't happen. It's nurtured.
What's more, men usually mirror their parents' bad behavior. We've yet to hear a peep from his wife & daughters come out in his defense so i don't doubt that Yahoo probably witnessed his dad call his mom such during his growing up years and treat them as badly.

(58,785 posts)probably a big reason he's been venting extra spite at Democrats. But now this hopefully will make him even more frustrated as he looks for a cushy new job after leaving congress.
Yoho, who has argued for ending ALL foreign aid, was actually hoping to be named the next head of USAID, the United States Agency for International Development! What should never be was/is appallingly possible because, when the director announced his retirement last April, ALL potential replacements named were unfit Republicans, Yoho among them.
(Speaking of unfitness, the latest Republican scandal at USAID is that a Yoho type newly appointed as a USAID religious freedom advisor turns out to be an anti-Islam bigot!)
In any case, though the only real way to keep any of these hard-core conservatives from being turned loose on the USAID is to put Democrats in charge, Yoho's latest public display of...being himself hopefully has at least moved him down the list of possibilities.
