Also heard that those arrested in any protest after Floyd's murder will be tried as a terrorist
That doesn't sound right. If you arrest on one charge, can you change it later? Make it much more severe? Like unlawful assembly to terrorism.

Other links say that more are being charged.
In other places, more conventional charges would be "rioting" (a felony) or destruction of property (also a felony).

(3,131 posts)The arrest is uncomfortable and dangerous both because cops can and because of covid.
They arrest you instead of giving you a desk appearance ticket to punish you.
They process you slowly to punish you.
They over charge you to make you hire a lawyer and make you worry for the year or so before charges ate dropped. Extra credit if you plead out or they actually convict you.
Its not a new tactic but they are escalating.
I donate to the ACLU through work and they match the amount I was surprised a few years ago when I learned they were on the list.

A) that may only be true of federal law (which was the context of the reportage I am remembering) and OK could have a state criminal statute for terrorism which could be abused for this purpose,
B) that statement could indicate they intend to charge protestors with the same sort of crimes which terrorists are often charged (a wide range of things specific to the actions in question, whatever will stick -- and there are LOTS of criminal statutes on the books which can be selectively applied)
Or C) the speaker could be blowing smoke.
I'm not familiar with this story, or the facts on the ground in OK.
