Slavery: not a necessary evil but country was built on it. Thanks for that argument for reparations

Last edited Mon Jul 27, 2020, 12:35 PM - Edit history (1)

Who know Tom Cotton would be the Republican to back up the reason why reparations are necessary? Our country's wealth was built on enslaved labor. The people who did that labor were never paid, and their descendants were intentionally kept from participating in our country's wealth.

It was certainly not a "necessary evil." America could have existed if nobody had ever been kidnapped and enslaved. It is part of our history and we need to be accountable to that history.

Jim Crow laws were enforced from the end of Reconstruction in 1877 until civil rights legislation was enacted in 1965.

That's what Alan Chartok calls him on WAMC radio. He said he refuses to call him by any other name, as the guy is a villain through and through.
