Like anyone else whose home has been invaded, Portland isn't just going to accommodate armed goons roaming downtown, randomly shooting and gassing citizens.

The protesters have a right to protest.

If someone doesn't attack the police soon, he will probably send in a team to do it himself.

but there was no social media, everyone didn't have a camera in their hand 24/7.

They can't control the narrative, because it gets out. Yeah, there is a small group of humans who will always fall on the side of the cops no matter what, but we were never going to get their votes anyway.

Rational people see what's happening.

the protesters would stop being goaded. Yes, they have the right to protest. Now they need the sense not to at this moment. There's no good to come from either side in this matter.

They think having some martyrs would be good for the cause, which is revolution. Not everybody, not most, but there are definitely some hardcore types who are doing their best to hijack the movement and whose goals go way beyond ending police brutality.

Does not include anonymous armed men pointing guns are chemical weapons at peaceful protesters.

The riot troops are sustaining the protests by there presence. The longer they are in place, the more volatile the situation will become, and that is just what the Trump administration is hoping for. Trump's language, indicating that his brown shirts are meant only for "Liberal"cities is evidence that this is all a political game. If it blows up, it will be in Trump's face.

goading protestors costs him support. After losing the election, he will continue as an act of punishment up to the day he is frogmarched out of the WH. He wants DEM cities to burn before the govt flips to DEMs.

Once he collects enough, he'll back off - unless things truly get seriously out of hand, with actual fire-fights and loss of life.
