White House continues building 13-foot high 'anti climb' wall after protests

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/white-house-border-anti-climb-wall-us-trump-protests-a9639761.html

The White House is on course to complete a planned multi-million dollar perimeter fence replacement as construction continues.

Pictures shared online showed construction advancing along Pennsylvania Avenue, where views of the White House are expected to be impaired when the new fence is completed next year.

Parts of the street have been blocked off and a temporary wall has been erected, as construction takes place.

Under plans that pre-date Donald Trump’s administration, the White House will upgrade all permitter steel fencing with new 13-foot “anti-climb” fences.

The enhanced security measures also include wider and stronger fence posts, intrusion detection technology, and “future security threat” mitigation, according to the plans.

I hope President Biden tweets that message when the wall comes down. And may it be on the one-year anniversary of the Trump "Liberate" tweets.

and plutocrats around the globe. That creates extremists willing to go to any lengths in support of their dogma.....including scaling walls at our White House and trying to turn the general public into numerous competing armed militias.

Dozens of right-wing think tanks and a massive right-wing media system (public and social) sponsored by hundreds of corporations and the ultra-wealthy are directly responsible for this sort of security measure along with militarization of police forces, human rights violations, removal of crucial government regulations and selling off of our public lands.

A removable anti-climb feature consisting of sharp metal points was installed on the top of the White House fence to deter any attempts by individuals to climb over the fence.

July 2016
The Commission of Fine Arts approved concepts for a new White House fence proposed by the National Park Service and the United States Secret Service. The proposed fence will be taller, stronger, and equipped with anti-climb and intrusion detection components.

From April 2016:

The U.S. Secret Service plans to raise the height of the White House security fence by 5 feet and add a new concrete foundation to reduce the risk of fence-jumpers, according to a copy of an agency report obtained by the News4 I-Team.

The agency, along with the National Park Service, said it intends to begin building a “taller, stronger” fence to protect the White House grounds by 2018.

. . .

According to the Secret Service briefing, the agency’s plans would raise the current 6-foot-tall fence to 11 feet. A new concrete “footing” and “foundation” for the fence are also planned.

Secret Service and National Park Service plans for the new fence would also include “anti-climb features” to deter fence jumpers. Small spikes, which officials call “pencil points,” were added to the current fence in 2015 after a series of jumpers leapt the fence on to White House grounds.

The plans for the new White House fence would include 1¾-inch pickets and taller gates near entrances to the grounds.

What is not clear is how much of the big ugly view-blocking design was part of the original design.
