Residents come up to me and say, Rashida, I don't know. I hear Joe Biden this, Joe Biden that. I say, Listen, do we need another four years of Trump? No. Then what I need you to do is go out there and focus on that, she said.
If the ultimate goal is to get rid of Donald Trump, that doesn't have to involve me actually endorsing Biden, Tlaib continued. My constituents don't need to be bogged down in, Is he the best candidate? That's not what you have to convince my residents. They need to come out in droves and be inspired by something. And that is going to be a vote against Donald Trump.
The comments by Tlaib come as the Michigan Democrat gears up for a competitive primary early next month, in which she faces a challenge from Detroit City Council President and former Rep. Brenda Jones, who has endorsed Biden for president.

Best of luck to Brenda Jones, a real Democrat with no qualms about enthusiastically endorsing the Democratic nominee for president, Joe Biden!

Does it matter why people pull the lever for Biden? It doesnt matter why we vote for him, just that we vote for him. Sheesh.

(47,508 posts)But will she vote for him? Will her supporters?
Why can't the Democratic party start and end each ad with these words?
All the ones who stayed home in 2016, and who intend to to the same because their candidate - ahem - is not the nominee - are they aware of the damage that the have caused to the judiciary system? That Trump appointed and the turtle confirmed 200!! judges?

(58,785 posts)the times and it seems she reflects them, they chose what resonated. Some may be very unhappy with what's come to them since, but of course those to whom kicking down the structure of their lives appeals far more than protecting it won't recognize, much less take the right lessons from, the consequences of their actions.
Rep. Tlaib came to where wise John Lewis worked and might have learned who and what he and many other good people were. But she apparently does not see what so many do, and the earnest messages of "the conscience of Congress" of how to be on the right side of history are rejected.
Well, irritating, but she's regrettably a noisy null set and will remain so. Her hostile messages seized on and amplified by our opponents, but she has zero influence in congress. Her constituents' problem.

(21,599 posts)"just vote against drumpf" plays right into the MAGA tagline that Biden offers nothing to make him worth voting for. its a form of voter suppression that will make people stay home if they think Biden isn't worth it.

(47,547 posts)I've had about enough of her. Whenever she comes on television, I hit the fast-forward button. Much of the "squad" has really turned me off. Perhaps they can bring about social change another way, as some of them aren't very good at politics and they give republicans far too much ammunition to use against Democrats. I'm not sure they really know how government works.

Would you be happy with a congressperson that supported Hillary say she wouldn't endorse Sanders if he were the nominee? I'm no fan of Sanders, but if he were the nominee, I wouldn't have accepted this doublespeak from a Clinton supporter.

(65,111 posts)If the goal is to launch PINO, and her role is to get people out to vote, it seems most expeditious to endorse Biden.
Failure to publicly endorse carries the risk of raising doubt in her constituents' minds.
It's politically foolish.
If it then discourages turnout, it defeats her stated goal. Counterproductive action!
What part of taking unnecessary political risk do you not see as a problem?
Autumn
(45,120 posts)Seeing as how she easily won her reelection last night. Some sad people this morning. I guess they didn't have the problem Jones had with her calling Trump Trump a "m-----f-----."
Which part of getting out to vote for Biden to get rid of Trump is confusing?
"I support Vice President Biden defeating Donald Trump in November, and I am doing to do everything I can do ensure that Biden wins in Michigan."
...Pressed further in the interview about why its difficult for her to endorse Biden in the coming race, Tlaib said, because I don't want to get into a debate with my residents.
Residents come up to me and say, Rashida, I don't know. I hear Joe Biden this, Joe Biden that. I say, Listen, do we need another four years of Trump? No. Then what I need you to do is go out there and focus on that, she said.

Whatever happened to "endorsements don't matter"? That was the thing for months.
ProfessorGAC
(65,111 posts)...endorsements don't matter.
And all your quotes don't resolve the risk.
You say "what risk"
I ask "How can you be missing it?"
Autumn
(45,120 posts)But that was brought up a lot during the last primary. She won. Despite people hoping she would not. If an elected politician talks to her constituents telling them to vote for Biden to get rid of Trump is a risk, then we are in deep shit.

(36,318 posts)It really doesn't matter to me who wins as I believe the citizens of the district will vote for who they think will do the better job in representing them but if Nancy doesn't have an issue with Talib, then I certainly don't.
