New Yahoo News/YouGov poll: Majority of Democrats want Biden to pick a Black woman for vice presiden

WASHINGTON — As presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden prepares to announce his vice presidential pick, a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll finds that a majority of Democrats believe he should tap a Black woman to join him on the ticket in November.

Biden, who promised that he would pick a woman to be his running mate during the Democratic primaries, has said he would reveal his decision in early August.

Sixty percent of Democrats think it’s important for him to select a Black woman, though only 25 percent believe it’s “very important” that he do so. Four Black women are on the vice presidential shortlist, according to Biden himself, though other prominent non-Black women of color remain competitive finalists.

California Sen. Kamala Harris, former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice and California Rep. Karen Bass are three of those Black women speculated to be top contenders for the VP slot.

Not a black woman, not a Hispanic woman, not a lesbian women, or not a disabled women. He said a woman. The first and most important issue is to have a women. we did have Obama to break the color line. We now need a woman to break the gender line. To me the gender line is the most important. Once we get a woman of any color in after that we have a much fairer chance in the future despite color or anyone I mentioned above.
