https://www.tmz.com/2020/08/01/florida-man-hangs-on-hood-semi-truck-big-rick-highway/Florida man strikes again -- only this time, he's in action hero mode, which looks way more terrifying in real life than it does on the big screen.
This insanity went down Saturday in the Sunshine State somewhere along I-95 -- where a big rig was cruising down the highway at a pretty fast clip with a HUMAN BEING stuck on its hood outside ... clinging on for dear life.

WTF? He should have stopped immediately! And with a fucking set! Jeebus! He needs to get a charge or two as well. Anything other than bringing the truck to a full stop is unacceptable.

(34,857 posts)I don't know what he's capable of doing or what he may or may not have.
There was an exact video similar to this of a black family who were being terrorized by a white guy, yelling that they had stolen this lady's car. He jumped on their hood and kept smacking at the window. I would absolutely NOT say, "pull over and hope the cops get there before he breaks into the car..."
If someone jumps on my window and starts attacking, the last thing I would want to do is stop.
Here's the video I am talking about BTW:
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)A man who appeared in a viral video of a father and his children facing an angry group of people near the Spokane Valley Walmart is sharing his side of the story.
Lawton Miller said he was leaving the Walmart on Sprague on Friday afternoon when he heard someone yelling.
"She said, 'he's trying to steal my car!' So I got out, walked over there and opened the door," Miller said. "I said 'hey, this lady said you're stealing her car.'"
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said the woman believed the driver had stolen her car, but it wasn't true.
The driver, Lee Allen, slammed the door on Miller's arm when he tried to open it. Allen told KHQ that he wasn't stealing the car and was terrified for himself and his two children in the car with him.
"I knew I was going to keep my kids protected no matter what," Allen said. "If all else fails, I could just step on that gas pedal and shoot out like a rocket somewhere, but at the same time I didn't want to hurt anybody."
Miller said he was planning to back off and let Allen leave until the situation changed again.
"This kid jumps on the car. What do I do now? I've got to get this kid off the car," Miller said. "I don't know if this guy knows it who's driving this car, (but) if this kid falls off and he runs over and kills that kid, he's going to prison for murder. He's no good to his family anymore."
Miller said that's why he decided to start chasing the car on his motorcycle. He said he blared his horn, flashed his lights and pulled up alongside Allen to try and stop him so the man on the hood could get off. Miller said he didn't set out to scare Allen or his family, and said he has children and grandchildren himself.
"I don't harm kids. I raised a daughter. I am a family man," Miller said. "I'm not no big bad biker. I'm grandpa with a bike, and I've got pictures with me and my grandsons on the bike."
Miller said he's been threatened online since the video was posted. He says he's not worried for himself, but he is worried for his family. He said he wants Allen and his family to know he's sorry.
"I've got to stay away from my family all together because I'm afraid somebody else might take it in their own hands and do something to my family," Miller said. "This video comes out and she says 'dad I love you but I don't want to know you now.'"
Spokane County Sheriff's Office deputies said they don't expect Miller to be charged with anything related to the incident.
They are still looking for the man who threw his bike at the car in the video.

(4,131 posts)If some maniac jumped on the hood of my truck and tried getting in my windshield I may just drive on down the street trying to shake him. He is already attacking me - how does stopping the truck make me safer? He could easily pull a gun and shoot me dead.
It didnt look like the truck driver was trying to hurt this guy. He wasnt driving really fast - just fast enough to try to shake the guy loose.
He would have killed him-highway speeds with traffic. You really think he had a gun?
I don't see the same as you I guess.

(4,941 posts)Even at extremely slow speed, if the guy fell off and went under a wheel he would be dead. The only correct action is to pull over and stop and the use your CB or phone to call for help.

(86,780 posts)He has a set of fucking trailers behind him and he's playing crack the whip with them. He could have hurt far more people than the guy in the hood.
It's not so hard to get someone off the step if he tried to get in the door. The windshield is pretty hard to break from that angle. Just fucking stupid.

(3,370 posts)The truck driver is actively trying to kill this guy.
The people filming think that a human on a tractor trailer hood on the highway is hilarious. The passenger asks, "should we call 911" to which the driver replies, "no, this is too funny." That is horrid. Zero compassion or concern......they just care about getting a viral video. They should be charged as well.

(86,780 posts)I hadn't seen that angle/image. Still... to drive like that on an open roadway, at that speed with something that large and a set of doubles.
Kind of looks like a solicitation gone wrong. How did this guy end up in his underwear on this hood of a semi? So many questions.
Elsewhere I suggested what I might do in that situation but in reality, never could have happened quite like this... I never let anyone else in my vehicle, never pulled more than one trailer at a time... I don't know.
Everything's different from what we are used to so

There has to be more that we are not seeing to make this driver do that. He may have stopped already and tried to get the guy off his hood. I would wager he already called 911, probably more than once.
I do think at the very least he'll get a week at home to think about it. If he was truly in fear for his life, he might have a defense.
I'm frankly not sure what I would do if it was me. I have a tire thumper but I don't always carry it with me (I'm in a different truck every time I drive and I carry too much crap already). If I had it with me ...well...then what? Stop the truck on the side of the freeway and start whacking the guy with it?
I certainly don't think jerking the steering wheel back and forth, trying to throw him off was a good idea at all, but who knows? Maybe the guy on the hood was threatening to kill him.
I have to touch wood, I suppose. After 30 years of doing this shit, and over 2 million miles now, I've never had anything close to this happen to me.

(86,780 posts)I was an independent during the strikes, you need a W-a-a-a-yback machine for that, but I have had to remove an individual from the outside of my vehicle, though they were trying to get in the door to get at me. Always keep the right side door locked, btw.
The guy didn't seem to have a weapon on him so he was highly unlikely to get through the windshield. Might break the hood and the wipers but he's not going through the glass. If he got down and tried to get in the door, then the gloves are off. Best way is to just open the door with great force and knock him off to the side, at that point, driving on is a good idea... if you knock them off to the side, you can avoid hitting them. It will take long enough for him to get up, assuming it's someone who's running on adrenaline might bounce right back, you can gain enough speed to avoid their getting back on the vehicle. At best, they get knocked to the side of the rig and it knocks the wind out of them and you drive to some place nearby to report it. I retired before cell phones were available.
What happened in the video was stupid, with a set of trailers! They're hard enough to keep going all in one direction on a good day. SMH

I also moved furniture.
Sex workers were ubiquitous and some were exactly the sort who might have jumped on a moving truck if a driver stiffed them or got rough.
I don't know what's happening in the video but it sure looks to me as if the driver is most at fault here.
This would probably be a good training video for truck drivers. Maybe it is.
