(CNN)Tropical Storm Isaias is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane again and reach the Carolinas on Monday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.
A hurricane warning has been issued for parts of South Carolina and North Carolina, and surges could reach 3 to 5 feet. The tropical storm warning has been extended northward to Rhode Island.
Now coastal communities in the Carolinas are in the track of the storm, which will bring hazards including storm surge, high surf, strong winds, heavy rain, flash flooding, and a few brief tornadoes. It is forecast to reach North Carolina on Monday night.
The storm will then race into the Northeast, unleashing heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding from New York to Maine.

(182,861 posts)I know, August afternoon thunderstorms but these are really big and sudden. At 3 yesterday I was going to prune some trees with my new electric chainsaw pruner. I decided not to and ran to the store. Everything looked fine until 3:30 and BOOM it hit with sheets of rain and lightning all around us.
