Warren,Booker call for OSHA standards for meatpacking in next Coronavirus bill.

Warren goes for Smithfield’s jugular in response to their bullshit ad.

Warren: Instead of investing in their workers’ safety, Smithfield Foods
ran a full-page Sunday New York Times ad – whining that they’re being treated unfairly after they rigged the rules to exploit the pandemic and put thousands of lives at risk. Well boo-hoo, Smithfield.

An estimated 2,000+ workers at Smithfield facilities have become sick with COVID-19. Some have died. Smithfield took OSHA to court to keep data on their biggest outbreak private. Asking about the safety and survival of Smithfield workers is not baseless criticism.

Smithfield didn’t provide answers to the workplace safety questions that Senator Cory Booker and I raised – they provided attitude. We need an OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for COVID-19 and an Essential Workers Bill of Rights to hold Smithfield accountable for protecting workers.
