It appears to me that Trump is doing some things that could alienate certain groups of voters and hurt his chances in the election. For example:
-- He is threatening to ban TikTok from the United States. This has reportedly angered many young people, and it could motivate some of them to register and vote against him.
-- Trump badly wants to boost the economy even if it requires that more people die from the virus. This is why he keeps pressing for businesses to resume normal operations when in many cases it still isn't safe for employees or customers. The toll of additional deaths will be heaviest among older voters, the majority of whom supported him in 2016. But some of them will perceive that their deaths don't matter to him and vote for Biden this time.
-- Trump keeps pushing for schools to fully resume in-person classes and has even threatened to withhold federal funds from schools that don't. But this could cause the virus to spread much faster than it would have, and people who understand this could decide to vote against him.
-- Evidently he has told the U.S. postal service to slow down deliveries. This looks like an attempt to sabotage mail-in voting. But it could also be intended to hurt Amazon's owner Jeff Bezos, who trump hates, since the company uses the postal service to deliver many of its packages. In any case, a mail-slowdown will irritate the general public, and some will blame trump.
To summarize, all of these actions could turn some voters against trump. This is why I suggested that he could be digging his own grave.
Note: Occasionally someone will say that trump is intentionally trying to lose the election. But it's highly unlikely that such a narcissistic person would do this. Almost everything he does is mainly motivated by hate.

That allows him to go out and revel in the chaos and cruelty. Double bonus for him.
I'm REALLY hoping not.

(2,947 posts)out workarounds to TikTok such as another VPN or registering in another country. They don't seem to be worried about it. I, however, would like to know why Microsoft is interested in it when it would be impossible to police the location of its user. Where is the financial gain to Gates? Is this a political payoff for something we don't know about as yet???

(33,643 posts)At this at this point he knows he's losing but thinks he can get close enough by turning out his base ... that he can contest the result (i.e. that he lost) with some semblance of a straight face.
I kinda think he want to lose, but only just barely ... have it be close enough that he can raise a big stink about it, call the results into question ... don't forget that he's a pathological narcissist who LOVES ATTENTION over everything else. He'd get SO much attention if that happened.

(588 posts)most estimates of his die-hard cultists put their number at between 25% and 40% of all regular voters. So by themselves, they can't get him close enough to contest the election. If he alienates everyone else, he's finished.

(33,643 posts)I recall an article somewhere that showed it was possible to get to the required number via a scary-low % of the popular vote ... things have to break just right of course, and I don't recall if 40% is in the vicinity or not.

(2,886 posts)some parents (and I have seen videos of older adults using it) may use it and at the same time like it as a platform for their kids, so maybe orange mr. potato head will lose some of those votes in addition to the younger voters...at least I hope...

(3,629 posts)First response: Double down. If it's not working, he must not be doing it enough. It never occurs to him that he should back off or change his behavior. Until...
Second response: Walk off and declare victory. Bankruptcy is actually a brilliant use of the financial laws available. Cheating election is rigged. This is why some people seriously think he won't stand for re-election. It would be crazy, but also consistent with his past pre-political moves.
