Un-sourced tweets are not always an accurate portrayal.
A picture of a tweet from a year ago is different than a tweet posted today. Context matters.
I understand that some can not access the link to tweets and it is commendable to make those posts accessible to those who don't tweet. But, not including the source link seems troublesome. A faked picture can be passed along with inaccurate or out of context information and now is not the time to be imprecise.
Truth and context are important things.
There are and will be a lot of provocateurs posting here. It is important to keep sources identified. Providing sources allows people to view information in its original context and prevent dubious information from being spread.
Please include source links when you post someones tweet.

(2,345 posts)Is everyone ok with un-sourced information being posted?
Should I just forget about it?

(37,161 posts)Perhaps could you provide examples of what you're talking about? Not everybody sees everything, and your OP was sort of a "nods head, but what else is there to say?" sort of affair.
Not sure what you were expecting in the space of 15 minutes.

(2,345 posts)It's not like "OMG, The Horror!" but it seems troubling that it is common enough for my casual browsing to see something like this:
With no link to the source tweet. Where if that information is provided it would be obvious that this tweet is from 2018.
From the image above you can't see that this is two years old.
But here you can:

(2,345 posts)Me.
(35,454 posts)I've been reading here for years. And I see posts that complain about using certain sources and how it shouldn't be done here. We're better than that, etc.
But I have lately being seeing more post of images that represent tweets that are not attributed to a source. It is probably pedantic of me.
I was just wondering if anyone else had an issue with un-sourced material being posted?
Ya know?
Me.
(35,454 posts)Because honestly, I haven't noticed a trend. But to help you out...

(2,345 posts)It takes more effort to upload a cropped picture than it does to copy and paste a link.
Plus, isn't it right to give credit to the original post?
And, what has been cropped out?

(7,244 posts)Different Drummer linked for you, the source may not be cited by whoever's tweet they copied and hotlinked it from. (And quite often people will use image links for tweets that have been deleted, to preserve them.) The image becomes, in effect, a standalone meme.
In the case of the tweet image Different Drummer posted, we can see it's from @FrankConniff on 3 August.
So one way to try to find the original if it matters to you would be to go to Frank Conniff's twitter account and see whether you can find it there. Which I just did:
Link to tweet
@FrankConniff
Chuck Todd to NBC exec: "So, you're moving my show to 1pm?"
NBC Exec: "Yep."
He never found out why because he doesn't ask follow-up questions.
Otherwise, you can try Googling a phrase from the tweet, but the success of that can be mixed.

(2,345 posts)It also gave me small joy to click the link and watch the tweet open in a new tab. I literally chuckled aloud.
Several times now because of that picture/tweet I have either smiled or chuckled audibly; once earlier today when I first saw it, again when it was posted in this thread, and again when I clicked your link.
I fucking loathe Chuck Todd:
Inform the Public? Not My Job, Says Chuck Todd
https://fair.org/home/inform-the-public-not-my-job-says-chuck-todd/
Appearing on MSNBCs Morning Joe today (9/18/13), Todd responded to Ed Rendells claim that Obamacare opponents are full of misinformation about the program by explaining that this was because Republicans have successfully messaged against it. But wasnt journalisms job to expose misinformation? No, Todd insisted; if the public was misinformed about the Affordable Care Act, it was the presidents fault for not pushing back:
What I always love is people say, Well, its you folks fault in the media. No, its the president of the United States fault for not selling it.
Its sad that NBCs White House correspondent thinks his job is merely to convey politicians pronouncements, with no care about whether they are true or false. In fact, scrutinizing claims, particularly those from powerful officials, is an essential part of journalism. Its embarrassing to have to cite elementary principles to one the nations most influential reporters, but Todd should consider reviewing the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics, where, under the heading Seek Truth and Report It, the very first tenet implores journalists to test the accuracy of information from all sources.
Fuck that over paid piece of shit.
Thank god I have that image above this reply to give me another smile once I hit the "Post my reply!" button.

(19,565 posts)Times are changing. It's the natural evolution of things. People now, amongst themselves, take a pic of a reddit, Snapchat, Twitter, Insta or FB post and text it. If it's private and you're not on the account that's the only way. Also, looks better and saves the other party another clickthrough, and some of their precious time. Not to mention these things are deleted at a manic rate anymore. If the party on the other side wants to read more, they look up the account and read it or ask for the link. They're not as "link required!!" as people were in the early '00's. But don't expect to get away with deleting content, because they and all their peers have screenshots with time stamps. That's how it works now.
It's just a symptom of how we're evolving in our sharing. Me, I just look it up if I want verification. But, you do you.

(19,565 posts)It irks me, too. I've just learned to adapt and I send links and screenshots when I text/post back. JIK, they want them. To me it's about polite, to them it's about speed. I get both sides.

(2,345 posts)I will screenshot and crop for those who do not have access and post a link for those who wish to follow up or see the tweet in its source format.
But I also like to copy and paste the actual text of the tweet to help with search optimization. Links with text allow web bots to crawl sources and make the search ranking more robust. If it is information I want to share, I want to share it all.
#penceforpresident
Added hashtag for trump trolling. The idea of trump suspicious of pence because of a twitter hashtag is not too absurd an idea for 2020.
I tried to post it a bunch of times on twitter but got twitter restrained. ha ha ha.

(2,345 posts)2016 was so sad...
The trolls and misinformation was everywhere and really has not stopped.
I think posts that are not original works of the author should at least have a link back to the source.

(17,169 posts)They are used in the same way as memes. I haven't seen one that doesn't include the Twitter handle of the poster, so if I could be bothered, there are ways of chasing it down.
Life's too short to demand attribution for every tweet.
