(7,637 posts)The two are intertwined. After all, for many years they were pretty much the kingmaker. If you were GOP you had to have a good rating from the NRA to get elected.

(7,637 posts)There is some much crap going on , its hard to remember them all but yes now that you mention it, I remember. It barely made a bleep in the media sphere when it came out given all the other scandals trump was feeding them daily.

(18,486 posts)The NY AG is all up in the NRA's business now.
Some Republicans close to Trump are probably scared to death right now ...
Think about it ... This goes much deeper than it may appear.

(115,847 posts)involving Trump, his family, his businesses and his campaign in which the NRA was laundering Russian or other money. The NRA has been up Trump's ass since the beginning of his campaign and has Russian connections. Remember Maria Butina? That would be handled by the Manhattan D.A., though. The state A.G. doesn't have jurisdiction over those crimes.

Ms. Butina may have only been used to put a pretty face on their backrooom dealings.

(2,293 posts)I am curious why there do not appear to be criminal charges for any of these guys or the accountants or any one else?
Plus there must be emails threatening law makers who do not toe the line. That would probably get you into bribery charges...
They never seem to push it across the finish line.

This is a civil action to dissolve the NRA, not criminal charges. Those would be handled by the Manhattan DA upon referral from the AG.

(32,640 posts)This was concerning financial regulations concerning non-profits, and self-dealing.
I'm not sure which juridiction would be covering various attempted bribes and threats - besides, I don't think the NRA would be blatant about a bribe or a threat in an email, where it would be part of a paper trail.
It would be up to the official to report a threat.

(1,977 posts)Unless there is going to be much more dirt forthcoming.... am I the only one that thinks this is going to work against us? I get that it may cut off some money from Russia but they will always find way sto funnel it in and it turns off a lot of people to us IMO. I want to believe that with everything that has happened to kids in school that the gun issue can be a winner for us but historically it hasn't. Even though Americans favor sensible gun laws. And I KNOW that this is sort of separate being this is just the NRA but they will frame it as Dems taking their rights away.
I dunno I just feel like this wasn't the tie to announce this. Feels like a politically stupid move.
