AMHERST In the wake of revelations that Holyoke mayor and congressional candidate Alex B. Morse had inappropriate sexual relationships with college students, the University of Massachusetts Amherst says it is reviewing the matter to see if Morses actions while a lecturer at the university violated federal Title IX sex discrimination law.
The university has reached out to students to provide them resources and support. UMass was previously unaware of the concerns brought forward by the members of the College Democrats, university spokesman Ed Blaguszewski wrote Saturday in response to questions from The Republican / MassLive.
The university has no plans to rehire Morse, who is not a current UMass employee but has worked as an adjunct instructor in urban government and politics, teaching the course between 2014 and fall 2019.
Morse has acknowledged having relationships with students, but said they were consensual. It is not clear whether any of the students attended classes he taught.
