NBC Head Reportedly Floated Nicolle Wallace to Replace Chuck Todd on ‘Meet the Press’

According to a new report from The New York Times’ Ben Smith, Nicolle Wallace was proposed as a replacement for her MSNBC colleague Chuck Todd as moderator of the Sunday morning news show Meet the Press. Two sources told Smith that NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell had “floated the notion of elevating” George W. Bush’s former White House communications director to take over the long-running Sunday show, but an NBC executive said in a statement that Todd “has led the Sunday news-making and ratings battles for five years at the helm of Meet the Press and will continue to do so.”

Earlier this month, MSNBC expanded Wallace’s afternoon show Deadline: White House to two hours, taking over the 5 p.m. time slot currently held by Todd’s MTP Daily. That show will move to the less-coveted 1 p.m. slot as of Aug. 17, the first day of the Democratic National Convention. The Daily Beast first reported that the network was looking to move Todd out of his afternoon time slot back in January.

I'd be good with that.

because Republicans would boycott the show unless they had a stooge like Toad asking the questions. Republicans would be terrified of Nicolle Wallace.

PS: time to stop giving a shit about what Republicans think. They've proven themselves to be absurd.

... maybe Chuck would be good on "FOX News"? However, I don't think he's near contract renegotiation time... so, he and we are both stuck, right now. I like Nicolle Wallace where she is now... in CA, she's on at 12 and 1 PM. if anything, she should be a little later, not earlier.

And let's face it, prime time audiences support more serious shows, averaging better informed viewers than daytime. In daytime/late afternoon, Todd was able to trash Democrats and spin for the Republicans more blatantly than he could have in, say, Rachel's slot.

I'm sure that's still his assignment, we're just less ready suckers this time.

on her program where she honors lives lost due to covid-19, is such a tear jerker! I will ALWAYS appreciate Ms. Wallace, just for that alone. She has empathy, she has intellect and common sense. As of late, she mentions her ex bosses achilles heel, we should ALL appreciate that!

I get that there's been a regime change, but still.

said so for years. I don't know who's supposed to have been calling him "useless." NBC didn't put him on everywhere more impressionable audiences were tuning in because he wasn't doing a very good job for them. He even had a following here when he was trashing Hillary six ways from Sunday.

The difference is that he's lost support for his role in electing Trump/McConnell and their barbarian hoards.

Nicolle Wallace is a treasure. I remember when it was first announced that she was going to be on MSNBC I was horrified. What a surprise she has been.

MTP would not be a good forum for her. It is important that the Sunday shows retain a bit more confrontational style as they are the pivot point for messaging and administrations point to them to control the weekly news cycle. Her mix of empathy and humor wouldn't quite work.

I lean towards Ali Velshi mainly because he has the money side of it down pat and that is totally lacking in anyone of the others.
