Happy #NationalLazyDay! #OTD in 1977 President Carter proved that no one could ever call him lazy by carrying his own luggage to Marine One, as he returned to Washington after a 5-day trip home to Plains. NAID 175875 #NeverLazy #BuildsHousesInHis90s

(25,537 posts)knew hated him and made fun of him, even though they all claimed to be big huge Christians. Here was a genuine born-again Christian right in front of them, and all they did was mock him. And then they loved Reagan. I was naive and believed what adults told me, was completely shocked by the reality that it's all bullshit. Every generation goes through this. You realize the people in the drivers seat of the plane you're on are idiots.

I'll bet you started questioning whatever else they told you once you realized they lied to you about Carter.

(25,537 posts)I have the intense embarrassment memory of being in the cafeteria -- the conversation was about Carter. The actors were all very verbal and hated Carter. Everyone had given their opinion but me. The most obnoxious actor forced me to say something. I was a dancer! Not a talker. So I said I liked Carter because he was cute. OKAY I AM A MORON and they all groaned. But it was true, he's cute. HE'S STILL CUTE.

(5,641 posts)Without the criers and constant barrage of brainwashing by M$M to the uneducated and people lacking critical thinking skills, we would be a nation of educated, informed, critical thinkers with a government that reflected that demographic.

(89,252 posts)Reagan over him. He was right on the environment. Imagine where we would be if Carter could have stayed and gotten his environmental agenda started and we could have avoided Reagan. Maybe we might have gotten the first Bush after Carter but it wouldn't have been a total disaster .
I keep thinking of the media celebrating Reagan's "there you go again" as the start of the news media turning into more of a cheap reality show v actual news reporting.
They still keep playing that stupid line but don't play what came before that.

Every tiny thing about President Obama makes their heads explode like that. Hmmm maybe he should wear his tan suit to Biden's inauguration....

(790 posts). . . President Carter placed his peanut farm in a blind trust to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. Imagine that.
"Since beginning their work with Habitat for Humanity in 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have helped to build, renovate and repair 4,390 homes in 14 countries alongside more than 104,000 volunteers through their annual work project. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has served more than 22 million people around the world."

(338 posts)I was a reporter in '76 when he campaigned one day in Milwaukee. He walked down the incline from his plane carrying his bags and threw them right into the trunk of his waiting limo. Later on, in another trip (I think), the candidate walked through our newsroom and shook every staffer's hand, mine included.
The man was hands-on and take-charge, notwithstanding his public image (burnished by Republicans) as a useless, clueless figurehead. Carter might be the most humble and straightforward president we've ever had. Making the tough calls, like that risky and ultimately failed rescue mission to bring home the Iranian hostages. When a sandstorm intervened and the military lost a helicopter, Jimmy took the blame. Trump, if the same thing happened now, might blame Carter. Hooray for Jimmy.
