General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI had an important realization this weekend:
I had gotten off the phone with a patient who was blatantly lying to me. And I began reflecting that more and more people are telling me outrageous lies about things which occurred and they have no conscience, do not seem to care that their lies are transparent, are not concerned about any of the ramifications, and then expect me to operate as though these lies were the truth.
In addition, a coworker was making a grotesque error of action and judgment, was called to the carpet by the boss, stated that I had been informed of this and that I was OK with it, the boss knew that I had not been informed and did not have the temerity to call this person out on the lie. I spoke with the boss and she knows that this person lies and I told her that in my day, lying about such an egregious incident would lead to immediate firing on the spot. She agreed that should be the case, but it seems that lying has become normative.
I approached the coworker and said if you ever Lie. about anything that has to do with me again I will go to management and tell them everything that you were up to during the day involving your Internet surfing, your family communications, your communications with your husband, your communications with your boyfriend, and your leaving early when you think no ones looking.
Ive come to the conclusion that people just dont care anymore because they see the person at the very tippy top getting away with it so why shouldnt they? Personally, I dont really care on this level unless it threatens my job, my well-being, or makes me liable for professional sanctions.

(102,292 posts)People who previously diminished the importance of "white lies," now feel free to tell "whoppers."
Like racism, verbal and physical violence, overt hate-fueled acts, TRUTH has taken an intensive "hit" as a result of this monstrous man in the WH and his ilk.
Lots of lingering societal damage, that I may well not live long enough to see reversed.

(61,650 posts)Trump's behavior gives others permission to behave the same way. Even those who don't like him are affected by his behavior, because he's the leader. That's how humans are wired.
Trump creates distress for all of us. He's a detriment to our society. Trump is toxic.

Edit: Watch your back. You just made an enemy of a highly vindictive and sadistic person who has no conscience.

I really admired, and still do, your promise to your coworker if she ever lies about you again.
Then it hit me that I would probably do something similar and that may not be too good...
I hate liars.

(2,430 posts)They blatantly lie and they know honest people won't dispute the lies unless they know for a fact they are lying. Democrats are more honest and have more respect for the truth--they typically won't use a lie to cover up something they do not know for a fact. The rethugs know this about us and have used this strength as our weakness for 30 years or more.

(1,702 posts)Why condition reporting this obvious POS until they "lie about you" ? Everyday they are infecting you, your co workers and company and are being protected by silence. Nip it in the bud like the rePUKES should have done right after tRUMP began his lies and corrupt behavior. Just my 2 cents.

(6,448 posts)I've been victimized several times by coworkers' lies. I learned to write down what was said, who said it, and who was nearby.
After becoming an amateur sleuth in time for them to try to disrupt my employment, it was the liars who ended up hitting the pavement.
I get your point about that person at the top. His sliminess has given the worst in our society license to overtly show their being deplorables. Congratulations on defending yourself.

(15,540 posts)Usually they speak of it in terms of the economy, but I can see it with regards to societal behavior. This hatred/negativity/self-centeredness/dysfunctional relationships didn't start with Trump, but it is now magnified and in the news every single day. I expect it's not going away any time soon (or at least in my lifetime), but those of us who are empathetic/caring/kind people need to choose our leaders wisely so that just maybe we'll be more influential than they are. Then our culture can change. I see the protests and BLM movement as a good sign that the younger generation may be our saving grace.

(15,540 posts)Do people really like living in a culture like this? I sure don't. I believe emotional health and well being is directly connected to physical health and well being. No wonder as a country so many are unhealthy both physically and emotionally.

(2,065 posts)I thought I could trust him. He called me back from Mexico for what I thought would be the perfect rental situation for me, and it turned out to be nothing but a scam. Now here I am stuck in what has become a de facto sh*thole country, unable to go back because COVID has made Americans global pariahs. After due reflection on things, I also came to the conclusion that he was taking his cues from the orange goon at the top. As for myself, I will continue to be honest no matter who is being dishonest, or how dishonest they are being.

I am really sorry this has happened to you, when all you wanted to do is help your patients.
Is there some way you can find another employer? Sometimes bad situations stink so much the smell forced you to do what you might have never considered...

Much of our right is well trained in intense loyalty to the lie. These hostiles are warriors who know their lies are more truthful than anything you could say.
