When do you think the pandemic "turning point" will be?

I was reading the thread on Sturgis, https://www.democraticunderground.com/1017598905

and all the many threads of people refusing to wear masks and refusing to even believe there is a pandemic, much less one that could affect them or their friends/family directly. Is this because the suffering is happening in hospitals and almost no one sees it? I don't understand why there is so little fear in the general public.

Do people need to post videos of covid patients dying to convince the public this is truly serious? What will it take (and when) will people understand enough to want to wear a mask or not have large parties and gatherings like Sturgis? The death figures don't seem to matter to people; it's just not "close to home" for them. I just don't know what it will take.

When Biden is sworn in is when we'll turn a corner on this. Trump won't even acknowledge the disaster for us to have a chance to fix it.

gawd forgive their friends and family lose their lives because of it .

In the meantime, COVID-19 will still spread which will result - harder to control, so therefore, it will be quite a while before we see any light at the end of the tunnel.

enough right-wingers die so that the rest of them take it seriously enough to adhere to the workable national plan.

Probably some time after next winter is over.

But PS, your idea that people need to see this to be convinced is a good one.

C19 is killing people of color (AA, Hispanic, American Indian) at higher rates. Some Americans don't see this as a problem. Look at AIDS. Also, Americans as a whole don't have much compassion for the elderly, infirm or chronically ill.

More "healthy" white people below the age of 60 need to die for a majority fo America to take notice.

start getting seriously sick and dying. Otherwise, not till Biden is in office, and I'm not counting any chickens yet on that happening as Trump and Republicans are doing everything in their power to fuck with/massacre the election.

He's not going to be able to fix "stupid" when he takes office.
The anti-mask thing runs deep among trumpers.. they still think it's something Gates or Soros made up to enslave Murikans.
Biden's election... no matter the majority vote.. will just drive them further into their delusions.

In answer to the question in the OP.... "When is the turning point?"

My answer would be "You think there will actually be a turning point?"

it won’t be that easy because Joe will still be up against Republican insurgency at many levels. When Joe takes over, there is a good chance a large portion of Trump’s fanatic followers will fizzle out with him. Trump pulls their strings and gives them courage.

We need a robust assault on Covid at every level of government. The assault must be coordinated through all state governors. This is what Democrats can accomplish. Of course there will be protest and pushback, but hey that’s what we are up against and must not waiver as a party of care and compassion.

I see a “moral” turning point in January 2021. I see a practical turning point shortly thereafter. A new President and staffing throughout will spark the country to act together to see this through. Just knowing there is a caring President will help immensely.

I think we will be in mask mode and distancing at least until there is a real, proven vaccine, if ever that happens. That will be the real turning point, IMO. Of course, there will always be a large portion of Americans who ignore all this and are living as though there is no threat to them at all, so they don’t and won’t care ever.

It will literally be 4 years before the US has a plan to turn things around, by then the economy will be completely destroyed, and it will most likely take a plan that involves time travel to get us back to some sort of reality.
