General Discussion

I wanted to ask what the general view was of some of them that I enjoy was. How do folks here feel about Rachel Maddow, Ali Velshi, Chris Hayes, Laurence O'donnell, Al Sharpton, Nicole Wallace and Joy Reid?

(63,912 posts)I listen closely to Nicole because she knows how the pukes think. Now she's a convert and that's the best kind!
Rachel's IQ is in the stratosphere and that is wonderful (my brain is tired). All others bring their own charms and thank goddess!

(10,053 posts)Especially love how Rachel "watch what they do not what they say" Maddow connects the dots. There are a lot folks out there who think they are stealth and can operate under the radar just assuming we are too dumb to notice, but she notices everything. And teaches us to do the same.

(10,168 posts)I record all but the Rev's show right now (the Rev was shoved to the weekend), and I watch or try to watch every one of these shows every day. Ali Velshi, the hardest working and most agile reporter on the planet Earth, I see everywhere so I count him too.
Add to this list Brian Williams. I used to not like him very much but on a cable format he is GOLD! He is sharp and has a wicked sense of humor that I love. He's my new favorite (behind Rachel, who will never drop below #1)!

Maddow: Awesome. The show by narrowing the focus to one or two main themes and the constant connecting of the dots within that framework almost always leaves you better informed. She can do a good interview also. (Thanks Al Franken and Air America)
Ali Velshi: Could be very good but they need to reduce his workload so he can catch a breath. Both with his business reporting background and his upbringing in Canada he brings a slightly different perspective. Post election will be the tie to watch how he develops.
Chris Hayes: Is having a tough time right now. What he is absolutely best at is deep dives into issues that actually need more time to develop then just one show. Too much of the deep anger and disbelief that he feels at this mess is bleeding through.
Laurence O'Donnell: Is what he is and works extremely well in the post Maddow slot as he can slow it all down in a very good way. He lets just enough of the old hand to bleed through.
Al Sharpton: Giving The Rev a slot was one of the best things MSNBC has ever done. While not a great TV personality, his constant and ongoing exposure has worn the rough edges of the perception of him, allowing the length and depth of the struggle to shine through, What was seen as self promotion has mellowed a bit into passion, connections and involvement.
Nicole Wallace: She is a star. But you could see her as the host of the Today Show as well as her current gig. It is the personality. That is not to denigrate what she is doing now, but you can see how she became such an important operative. What is more you can actually see how people were deceived into thinking that you could work with Republicans. Her transformation once she got out of the game and had a chance at real deep reflection seems to be quite honest. That really shows every day just why the suburbs are moving our way so dramatically and at such speed.
Jot Reid: For me she has redeemed herself somewhat in the last couple of weeks. I'm going to reserve judgement for a bit.

(53,784 posts)She constantly fact checks repugs to their face and won't let them just regurgitate talking points without challenging them.
I've started changing to her when she's on.
