Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo CNN, with John King, is pushing that the theme that African Americans are "demanding" that
Biden choose an African American woman "or else"
They don't specify what "or else" means
This drama pushed by the media laughable
I will bet money that Joe Biden will select an African American woman, and that it won't be Nina Turner

It will be someone that he will be able to work with well, and I have no doubt that there will be some who won't be happy because the selection doesn't fit a particular criteria in their scheme of things

(4,836 posts)I can't stand Nina Turner.
Don't take Gretchen!!! We need her here.
On Morning Joe, Michael Steele was saying that the imperative that a black woman is chosen is not as strong as it once was, apparently Elizabeth Warren has a good reputationamong black voters. Then this young black woman came on and basically said if a black woman is not chosen, a lot of younger black people, especiallywomen, night just stay home. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
I've always said, Kamala Harris.
Do not pick Susan Rice, it will be Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. Don't pick
anyone associated with the Clintons, or really, Obama (except Biden of course).

way too much of that over the years and it is purposely done to hurt all women. We are better than that and too many are falling into this little game that is played at women's expense. It is too bad, I do not like it.

(10,832 posts)Because it distracts from the main goal, the only goal at this point:
Winning on November 3rd.
Losing votes or splitting voting blocs, getting voters riled up among different factions is counterproductive to what we all want and need--a clear, undisputed win to obliterate Trump and Trumpism. And yes, this particular game is being played at women's expense, a voting bloc that has been turning away from Republicans and all things Trump in huge numbers. What we really need to do is brace ourselves for the sexist attacks coming down the road, regardless of the ultimate choice and be ready to defend whoever the official VP choice turns out to be.
Color me optimistic but I believe once the announcement is made, we will, in fact, be on the same page. Because we must.

(56,828 posts)Let me guarantee you this, based on everything that I know and understand, and the help that [Biden] has already gotten from the Black community, with what [Rep.] Jim Clyburn has done. Jim Clyburn and when he hears this hes going to laugh, he cant go home without a Black woman being VP, Waters said confidently. Were going to have a Black woman VP.

(1,206 posts)There are a multitude of 'opinion' pieces, articles and calls for Joe to have a black VP - those five were just a couple I found in an extremely cursory search.
John King and CNN are not wrong.

AA overall have been among Biden's strongest supporters all along. They certainly know the difference between bad troublemakers and making good trouble.
And there's an enormous difference between naturally hoping Biden's choice will be black and working oneself into the notion that any other choice would wrong black people.

(56,828 posts)to paraphrase: that while it would be nice if Biden chose an African American woman for running mate, it is NOT a must have.
