Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings popping up across the region, as storms with dangerous winds and frequent lightning rapidly approach the Chicago area.

A series of tornado warnings have been issued across northeastern Illinois, as powerful thunderstorms roll through the region.

One of the warnings will be in effect for northeastern DuPage County and northeastern Cook County, and will expire at 4:30 p.m.

Tornado sirens went off, but the heavy, cyclonic activity was 12-15 miles north of us.
73mph wind at Midway airport a minute or so ago.
Rained like heck here for 10 minutes. Winds had to be 40 something.
Hitting Chicago right now.
Storm is 90 miles, north to south! About 10 miles wide, moving nearly 60mph.
We lost power for a minute or less.

Been watching the Weather Channel for the last hour. Hope it dies down over the lake before it gets to Mid/Michigan.

I have WGN on as I was reading your reply.
They just had radar map. The power edge of the storm is around the state line.
Still plant of green coming, but that's just rain. The radar shows we missed the brunt of it.

WGN just showed the CAPE model numbers.
Champaign is showing energy of 5,500. Peoria was 4,400 and Chicago's south side was 3,100.
1,500 is a strong, windy storm!
But, the model project the city to be at zero by 6pm.
So, it might be short lived.
