Viral video shows police pointing guns at Black teens who were allegedly victims of attack

Multiple police officers in Santa Clarita Valley, Calif., are under scrutiny after footage went viral showing them pointing guns at a group of Black teenagers shortly after the teens were allegedly attacked at a bus stop.

In footage shared by Tammi Collins, identified by CBS Los Angeles as the mother of one of the teenagers, on Instagram this past weekend, three officers could be seen pointing guns at the teens, who had their hands raised, as people could be heard repeatedly yelling phrases to them off-camera such as "It's not them" and "It's the other guy."

Collins said in the post that the police arrived on the scene shortly after her son and his friends had been attacked by a homeless man. Collins said the man had initially approached her son and his friends to ask them "if they had any crack, then tried to take their things."

The man allegedly became aggressive, removed his shirt, and "pulled out a knife and whip," attempting to stab the group.

"His friends only had their skate boards to cover them from the knife and whip so they held it out to keep distance from this guy. Several bystanders including the restaurant manager of Buffalo Wild Wings called the police to get help for the boys but 'one' caller called the police and reported two black guys are attacking a homeless guy," Collins wrote in the post.

So tired of police prejudging based on skin color...they don't need to start with guns drawn. Karadeniz Aug 2020 #1

It seems like they can’t come up, observe for a second as they get out of their cars, then go from there. It is just mindlessness.

A viral video shows Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies holding up three Black teenagers at gunpoint, when they were actually the ones who needed help. Tammi Collins — the mother of one of the teens — told TMZ that deputies were called to the scene after an unidentified homeless man approached the boys at a bus stop and asked them for drugs.

The man then allegedly tried to steal the teens’ belongings and became extremely aggressive. Some people in the video told deputies that he had a knife and tried to stab the teenagers. The boys used their skateboards to defend themselves, but when police arrived they were held at gunpoint and told to put their hands in the air.

***************
While the deputies were aiming their guns at the teens, a bystander noted that the homeless man was “walking away with a knife.”

According TMZ, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department lost sight of the homeless man and he was not detained or questioned. The teenagers were detained and, after speaking with deputies, were released. No arrests were made.

My heart was in my throat watching this! WTH?? Rambo cop with his rifle pointed...seriously? Totally unnecessary. And EVERYONE was yelling “it’s not them!” I’m so tired of watching videos like this. These cops better get fired, especially Officer Rambo.
