Things were a little dicey even at the hospital today.

Walked in the main entrance. It was all roped off. Big stickers on the floor, indicating 6 feet of distance.

Woman at podium: Where are you heading today?
Me: Ultrasound, and then lab.
Woman: You're wearing both a mask and a face shield? May I ask why?
Me: Because I want to. Do you need me to slip the shield down a bit to take my temperature?
Woman: No, that's ok, I can catch the top of your forehead.
Me: Main floor, right?
Woman: Yes, just take those elevators to the main floor.
Me: Where are the stairs?
Woman: Oh. you want to take the stairs??
Me: Yes
Woman: Well, they're right around the corner from the elevator.
Me: Thanks.

I take the stairs up to the Ultrasound waiting room. A woman checked me in. I sat down far away from any waiting patients, which meant I sat nearer to the 3 woman that were there checking people in. They all had masks on.

One of the woman started hacking up her lungs. One of the worst coughs I've ever heard. If she didn't have a mask on, there would have been lung chunks flying against the wall. I stood up and walked to one of the people doing the check-ins.

Gotta pen? Yes, she said. I asked her to please write down my phone number, and to please give me a call when they were ready to take me back. I must have been looking at the woman with the cough while I was saying this, because the woman I gave my number to whispered "Oh, don't worry, she's been tested". "I don't care", I said...please call me when they are ready for me. Thanks.

I went elsewhere, and a hospital worker wheeling a cart walked next to me and said "HI"! I said "Hi! Put your mask on please"!

I got the phone call for the ultrasound. The tech introduced herself and brought me to the room. While she was squirting the gel on me, she said "I'm getting a vibe from you". I said "Oh yeah? You mean you can tell I'm a world class male stripper"? She laughed and said "No, I get the feeling that you don't socialize much". Why's that, I asked. She said it was unusual to see anyone with both a mask and a shield on. I said, well, here are my pre-conditions...and I rattled off about 5 things that were wrong with me. She said "I'm sorry sir". I said "You better be, and winked at her. I then told her that I talk to people everyday in person, but I keep my distance, and use zoom quite a bit to talk to my two best friends who both lost their jobs and are in a pit of despair. She then started telling me about some of her family members who were suffering from serious depression because of life changes due to fear of Covid.

I went to the lab, and while I was waiting in line, some guy, probably in his 30's, was about 6 inches behind me. I thought he was going to start dry-humping my leg or something. But to his credit, he did have a half-assed mask on. I turned around half-way and said "Six feet, please". "Oh yeah...sorry" he said.

Got a text while I was getting my blood drawn that a relative of a good friend had died of Covid. She was a relatively young and previously healthy RN.

I was glad to get the hell out of there.

... or maybe not!

Yeesh, glad you got out of there!

Much as staying at home is getting old, venturing outside can be very stressful....

The pharmacist (who you would think would know better tends to wear her mask below her nose. I don't know if it slides down or she likes to wear it like that. I am not happy about it.

PT people wear surgical masks and either eye goggles or face shields. Mask wearing is enforced after you check in and get your temp checked and answer questions about symptoms and exposure. Heck, even the construction guys on that floor are wearing masks.
We take the stairs because they let people without masks use the elevator to the check-in floor.

We’re hibernating and meanwhile extended family has tested positive and don’t even realize they were exposing people for probably 2 weeks.

Going to have some lab work done (routine). I'll get some groceries
as long as I'm out. I plan on taking a shower when I get back home.

which said on the back, "IF I COULD TURN AROUND AND PUNCH YOU, YOU ARE TOO CLOSE."

Me, I've been out of my own yard once since March 1st (masked and gloved) and that was to pick up a prescription at a drive-through where my payment is on file. I have preexisting conditions also. Fortunately for me I'm a massive introvert.

Even Covid aside that is some insulting and inconsiderate service.

Thanks for staying polite but firm. Those little "pleases" and "thank yous" are what we need to rebuild consideration and graciousness in this country.
