This would be a game changer for those wanting to retire early - like me.

(10,198 posts)At a time when many are having health problems is a big issue. I was fortunate enough to keep my old insurance and retire at 62. Many would like to, but they cant.

One would be to drop the minimum age by two years every year until it gets to age 50 or so. At the same time, start extending the equivalent to children up to age, I dunno, 5 or 10, and raise that by a couple of years every year. Then simply include everyone.
People do need to understand that Medicare has its limitations. It is essentially a base line coverage, but it's vastly better than the nothing seniors had before it. There will also need to be the ability to purchase various add-ons, such as the current Advantage Plans or the other ones currently available.
It's going to be complicated, but looking at how other countries manage can give us some blueprints to work with.
