So Russia has a vaccine....Talk me down.

There was a thread here on DU with people a lot smarter than I....

It is purported that if Russia has come up with a vaccine for Covid-19 in such a rapid fashion it meant the probability of them having engineered / released it is almost certain.

I know this is conspiracy level stuff but it is not out of the possible. If anyone has any actual facts to add to or disprove this please chime in.

Many of them, actually.

None of them have gone through phase 3 testing. The Russian vaccine hasn't either.

In fact, it's not as far along as several other candidates under development in the various Western countries.

The only difference is that Putin has declared this one "approved".

until then, it's far more likely that it's a simply a lousy, poorly tested vaccine that they rushed into production so they can say that had "something".

There was an explosion at a lab in Russia in Sept 2019.

[link:https://thebulletin.org/2019/11/what-happened-after-an-explosion-at-a-russian-disease-research-lab-called-vector/#|

The lab is one of two that store the small pox virus. So biological weapon-type work goes on at the Serbian ? lab.

The puppet was rushed to Walter Reed for "the first part of a physical", I guess shortly thereafter. It was never explained, and the GOP lies lies lies.

There was a thread on Twitter by someone (Soychicka?) that there was a group of Italian scientists was in Russia for some reason, a reason I've forgotten. But there was a link to Europe/Italy and Russia.

Again, speculation. But what else can I do--with a Soviet puppet in the WH and a Senate collaborating with the Russians--other than speculate.

Senate is run by McConnel, who has an aluminum deal with an Russian/Ukrainian oligarch. And Ron Johnson, a dick senator from WI, is spreading Russian propaganda, etc. etc.

So that explosion at Vector (Fall 2019) didn't slow them down.

[link:https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2020/03/17/russia-starts-testing-potential-coronavirus-vaccine-a69652|

Russian scientists have begun to test vaccine prototypes for the new coronavirus, and plan to present the most effective one by June, a laboratory chief at a state biotech institute said.

Russia has reported 93 cases of infection but no deaths, according to official numbers published Tuesday.

"The prototypes have been created. We are starting laboratory testing on animals, to ensure effectiveness and safety," Ilnaz Imatdinov of the Vector Institute in Siberia told the Vesti Novosibirsk television channel on Monday.

"In June we will present one or two showing the best results."

Vector Institute is a state virology and biotechnology center in Novosibirsk, which previously worked on vaccines for the Ebola virus.

Thing that make me go huummmmm. Connect the dots, la la la.

Russia is a mess. This virus has been a disaster for them, much as it's been a disaster here in the U.S.A..

This vaccine, whether effective or not, is being promoted in Russia to reduce the threat of widespread civil unrest.

I don't think it's about us.

There's a tendency in the U.S.A. to think everything is about us.

COVID-19 was not designed. Here's how we know: https://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2020/03/28/where-did-sars-cov-2-come-from/

The virus has other similarities to coronaviruses in other animals; it’s not a de novo construct, but is a member of a large family of viruses. The modification to the spike protein is unusual. It works, but it’s not one that scientific experts would have used — they would have used something that would have been previously modeled. Then also bioengineers have lots of clever tools that could be used to stuff a desired sequence into a virus, but they all leave tool marks, little scraps of the molecule used to do the replacement. Those marks aren’t there. The best explanation is that we’re just seeing natural selection amplifying random variations in the spike.

But, unlike the pumpkin in the oval office...they took this shit seriously. Before China even admitted they had a problem, Russia sealed its border with them. They actually believe in their intelligence services...imagine that?! And probably started working on a vaccine immediately, despite looking like they were going to come out of this fairly well.

Where they fucked up at, was Iran. Because Russia, China and Iran have close relations, Iran got hit pretty hard and by the time Russia reacted, it was too late.

I suspected they would have a vaccine a bit early because, one, they were already working on it. And two, they are willing to take on more risk with incomplete studies. But they did hack into other countries developing a vaccine. But I suspect its more like the spying done during the Manhattan Project. Just looking for confirmation that they were on the right track.

With that said, I still canceled our plans to visit Russia next year. Decided it would be safer to visit Cancun, we'll do Russia after that.
