I'd be saying this about any veep pick because you know that's what's coming.
Tulsi did a pretty good number on her - whether the accusations were valid or not - during the democratic debates, and we can plan on republicans taking a page from that playbook, and we're going to need to be able to answer them.

(251 posts)🤔 I agree with preparing for the attacks but tulsi was like a Russian nesting doll as the primary progressed. She got smaller and smaller.

(52,230 posts)people vote the top of the ticket. the may talk about the veep choice, sometimes even to justify their vote, but it really doesn't change minds (there *may* have been some exceptions to this rule with sarah palin).
for the most part, if they're attacking kamala, they're neither promoting themselves nor attacking biden, so let them have at it.
of course, we'll defend her, but for the most part, they lose simply by getting themselves into that battle. especially if it's donnie vs. kamala. as weak a strategy as it is to attack the bottom of the ticket, it's really stupid to have the *top* of the ticket attack the *bottom* of the other ticket. that fight puts them on equal footing, which is a terrible idea.
that's why you want the bottom of the ticket to attack the top of the other ticket, but the top of the ticket is supposed to ignore it and remain "presidential". but of course, donnie can't do "presidential" and he can't keep from attacking women, so he's already gotten himself into a fight that he should have had pence fight.

(33,643 posts)Which is probably a not-insignificant aspect of why she was picked.
She's reasonably progressive, but she was also a DA. That's going to strike a nice balance for a lot of people.
I mean sure you have your racists and sexists that are going to hate her cause that's how they are, but I think they'll be well offset by non-racists/sexists.
I should say there's nothing that's TRUE about her that's particularly off-putting.
Given the compulsive liar currently squatting in the Oval, however ...

Don't think that's a target rich environment for the Rs.
They're already doing the " tough on crime" bit. They can't criticize her for being tough on crime. They already consider it a virtue.
It will be the stock "high taxes", " socialist" gibberish.
The script would be the same if Joe picked an unknown, like me.

Gabbard did jack... and the GOP will throw anything at the wall and anyone-- that's their playbook, and it ain't predicated on any one specific candidate.

(25,531 posts)appeal to centrists, disappoint the "Bernie Sanders people" who wanted someone more radical. This confuses me because last time I checked she was ranked the second most progressive senator. How the hell can that be "centrist"? Odd.

(8,709 posts)Saying she was against fracking, she was for universal health care, and just basically too liberal. He stayed away from the prosecutor stuff because his cult would love the fact that she had been a prosecutor. . He will have a problem going after. And, because she is a billion times smarter than Trump, this should be fun. I am happy today.

(14,565 posts)Kamala has an aggressive personality, which fares well here but not among swing female voters. I saw that repeatedly when I hosted debate watching parties.
I don't think the GOP attacks will be centered around issues as much as allowing Kamala to speak and then using those clips to frame her as "nasty," the theme Trump chose today.
Right wingers are absolutely petrified of strong females in positions of power. This choice will be used to try to bring back some soft supporters who may have been trending away.
That's my handicapper's hat anyway. On sports forums and Predictit comments the right wing attacks are already in full swing and they center on Kamala's overall persona. Keep in mind her favorable/unfavorable number has been underwater for a full year until the most recent poll, which was an encouraging 43/36
