CHICAGO — Chicago police have released the initial video of looting that took place overnight Monday.

The video captures a crowd gathering in front of Nordstrom Rack in the Gold Coast. Once looters broke into the store, a crowd rushed in and began taking merchandise.

The same scene took place at the Nordstrom on Grand Avenue. Police arrived to the scene a short time later to break up the looting.

More than 100 people were arrested throughout the downtown area.

What I've read is that someone falsly posted on social media that cops shot unarmed 15 y/o black kid.

There was a shooting, but the guy was much older & supposedly armed & aggressive. I'll try to find story & post here if I can find.

I am truly shocked & saddened by this behavior! This hurts the BLM movement &, in my opinion, serves to justify police budgets & tactics.

I have been searching, but have not found anywhere that BLM denounced these actions or that they have retracted Chicago BLM statemenrs in support of this.

7. Points for correctly calling it LOOTING.

This wasn’t protesting and it would be a stretch to call it rioting, even if the impetus was a police shooting. This was self-interested “free stuff!” looting, and reports of a supposed BLM local leader calling it reparations suggest that it is calculated to hurt the cause instead of helping it.

Looting, especially coordinated looting in response to a police shooting, is pure catnip for right-wing media looking to undermine the BLM movement by conflating protestors, rioters and looters. Free the protestors, jail the looters!
