Sub Meeting At Local School Today

Not the district in which we live, but in the next county west. 10 miles or so, away. (65-70 miles southwest of Chicago)
5 people on line; 11 in person. (Room probably could hold 50-60 people.)
All masks, all 6-10 feet apart.
Boy oh boy!
Things are going to be very different!
20-25% are opting for online. So, class sizes automatically reduced.
Kids come to room, stay for day. Teachers move from room to room. Keeps hallways from congesting.
Except for science classes (that figures, given I only do science & math).
Teachers have to mostly stay put in front of laptops because of the kids viewing from home!
Masks, 100% mandatory! (Medical exemptions allowed, but only for doctor verified conditions that are on the IDPH list.)
They're providing masks to subs with the school colors & logo so it's an identifier that you belong there, roaming the halls.
They've made 2 part time med staff, full time so they can do temp screenings of students prior to entry. (I didn't have the heart to tell them that 40% of infected people don't run a fever. I told the CBO after the meeting.)
They're giving email addresses to the subs & assigning a laptop to each of us, loaded with all educational programs, so we can continuously monitor what students are seeing.
They bought a self-certify license so subs & teachers can sign on & answer the screening questions before we leave for school.
Supplying hand sanitizer & spray bottles of disinfecting cleaners.
Kids go 7:30 to 12:15. They do grab & go lunches. Then they sign on at 2:30 for one hour of online instruction so the get their 5+ hours each day.
Grades are staggered by 15 minutes (6,7,&8) so all kids don't arrive & leave at same time.
After hearing the details, I think it's workable, given it's a modest school system.
Serves two towns of around 5,500 people. So, maybe 1,100 total students in 4 different buildings. And 20%+ aren't there.
If the schools were bigger, I don't know.

She is going to wait until early October to decide whether she goes back. Not likely.

ETA: She subs at the middle school only.

Mr. Ohiogal is a retired public school teacher and he just shakes his head and wonders how in the world do they expect kids in school buildings. It’s a mess.

I sub mostly when the weather prevents golf & yard care.
Since I mostly only stay busy Nov-Mar I've got time to see how things snake out.

Self-discipline is in short supply among 6 year olds.
But, I only do 7-12 anyway.
I can see some early adolescent rebellion in middle school, I suppose.
I don't need the $, so I am in a holding pattern to see how things go.
