After someone threw explosive devices at protesters in Laurelhurst Park, questions arise over police investigation

https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2020/08/after-someone-threw-bombs-at-protesters-in-laurelhurst-park-questions-arise-over-police-investigation.html

Early Saturday morning after protesters were largely dispersed by police, a small group gathered at Laurelhurst Park. Then, around 2:30 a.m., video shows an explosive device being thrown at protesters and some members of the press.

The video didn’t show who tossed the three devices -- two of which detonated -- and no one was injured.

Photos from the scene show what appears to be a pipe with a bag of black powder removed from it.

Several videos shared on social media captured the incident, including footage of a man leaving the park carrying a military-style helmet with night vision goggles just after the explosions. Scott Keeler, an independent journalist who captured the footage, said he has not been contacted by police about the incident.

Since protests against police brutality and systemic racism began in Portland more than 75 days ago, Portland police have arrested hundreds of people. Some of those arrested were identified using footage of protests streamed on social media.
